this has been going on for a few days and it's driving me bonkers.

not because I hate the smell (although the taste is like waking up after a night of booze and fags...nice ), but after four years it's making me want to have one

Is it your neighbours? I can smell smoke etc like you sometimes and I gave up nearly 10 years ago! I'm sure it must seep through the chimney breast or walls or something...or maybe I have mental health issues......

Washersaurus · 18/02/2010 21:18

I'm even more hypersensitive to it whilst pregnant btw......

LackaDAISYcal · 18/02/2010 21:23

no semi with a little old lady who has never smoked next door.

It's with me all the time, even outdoors. DH smokes the odd cigar, but always outside and he has had a chest infection so hasn't had one for weeks now.

and not pregnant that I know of, lol

I can always taste it when I smell it, even if it is just walking past someone in the street. Maybe it is lingering on your DH? Do you do a lot of snogging

ellielou02 · 18/02/2010 21:47

Has any of you DC been near anyone that smokes or anyones house that smokes, I smell it on my DD's when they have been at the in laws.
Are you on any new tablets?
Sorry grasping at straws, oh and daisy STOP googling

Have you been using binliners for storage? I know that sounds a bit loopy but there are one or two brands of binliner that do give off a smell very similar to tobacco smoke.

Otherwise, do you suffer from migraines at all? Because sometimes smelling things that aren't there is a feature of migraines.

never had migraines before, but I do feel a bit headachy now, but thought that might be due to the smell rather thamn the smell being down to the headache.

no to being around anyone smoking, only DH and he is off them at the minute, and at work all day anyway

and I know the binliners you mean SGB, and no not them either.

It's driving me nuts...smells exactly like marlboro lights and I want one now.

if this helps dh gave up by eating only fruit for a weekend (you have to rest of course) which could be difficult for you.

But what that does is remove the nicotine from yr body so you don't crave it any more. And it may remove the taste for you. it's worth a try eh?

LackaDAISYcal · 19/02/2010 21:25

thanks ppeatfruit.....but I'm not trying to stop smoking! I did that over four years ago . Problem is that I ahve the smell of smoke in my nose, inspite of not being around anyone who smokes....tis a mystery.

hana, it doesn't go at all; it's kind of there constantly, but seems worse in the morning and gets better through the course of the day. that would fit with a sinus infection I suppose as you are usually more bunged after a night's sleep.

I have baan snorting olbas oil today to try and elliminate the smell and try and unblock things; now I can just smell menthol cigarettes

docs on Monday if it hasn't improved.

Lacka daisy..i realise that you have given up but the nicotine or something!! is obviously still in you!!

DOLLYDAYDREAMER · 24/02/2010 21:11

hi - i dont mean to worry you but you really need to find out if its so - it is possible you may have a mild or temporary form of epilepsy - it is a common first symptom to smell or taste something that is not there - speak to your Dr or check out the N.S.E website for more info -

LackaDAISYcal · 24/02/2010 23:26

thanks for your message dolly. I had come across various things of that ilk when I googled it. I am at the docs for something else on Monday so I'll mention it then as it's still happening.

I have had this too (smelling smoke only though, not tasting it), it's really annoying, especially as I've never smoked. I was driving DH mad asking him if he'd been somewhere smoky. It disappeared on its own after a week or so. No epilepsy or migraine. You can get an odd smell as the first symptom of those but a fit or a headache would follow pretty quickly afterwards, so I don't think you need to worry.

Floopy21 · 25/02/2010 11:57

Maybe you've got a chain smoking ghost following you around?
