Swine flu jab when you think you've already had swine flu

DD (3) has been offered a swine flu jab, but I'm pretty sure she had swine flu last summer. Of course, because they weren't testing at the time, I've no idea whether she really did have it. I'm usually all for vaccinations, but I don't really want to put her through the trauma if she doesn't need it because she's already immune. Am waiting for a call-back from the nurse at my doctor's surgery, but just thought I'd ask: can they do retrospective testing to see whether you've had the illness and therefore won't need the jab?

I was in the same position as you with my 3 yr old ds.
In the end, we went and he got it yesterday and he was great. It really surprised me as he is SUCH a drama queen - if he even slightly bashes himself he has a melt down, but it wasn't at all traumatic.
I had the jab a few months ago as I am pg and had no reaction, and I have a reaction to everything, so I was happy for him to have it. It is a very small dose in the vaccine apparently.

Also, getting blood out a kid for testing is FAR more difficult and uncomfortable than being given a jab, so I don't think htey will test her. Hard to get bood out a wee kid.

Good luck making your choice. It isn't easy.

Just heard from the nurse: no retrospective testing (as I'd presumed), but she said 'no pressure ? it's up to you'. Still undecided but will probably go for it to be on the safe side.

Good point about a blood test being worse than the jab anyway - never thought of that!
