Any experience of Perineoplasty??

Not even sure this is the correct term!

Had my postnatal checkup today and GP was surprised that I had no stiching after Ds2s birth, even asked if I was suffering incontinence.

She is referring my to a GYN to see about repairing damage (was told by midwife was 1st degree - beginning to suspect may be 2nd as reaches all the way to sphincter).

So my question is...Has anyone any experience of this? Would I go under GA? what are the results like?

Actually several questions there - but am really quite freaked about this and don't seem to be able to google what surgery I would need.

Please help me!!

ladyGooGoo - there was a thread about post birth trauma's, I can't find it at the moment, but if you find it or anyone else knows where it is I'd be really grateful for a link. I'll bet you'd get lots of replies from a post on there.

Am interested because am being referred for something similar myself. Apparently I have a 'gap' where my perinneum used to be (euuwww)! It's taken me 6 years to get it checked out so you're doing well to get it done now.

Re degree of tearing. My understanding is that 1st degree is skin only, 2nd skin & muscle, 3rd skin, muscle & into anus. I don't think it's to do with how far the tear went, rather how deep?
