DD1 has suspected swine flu..DD2 is supposed to get her jab Monday

Assuming DD2 won't get ill this weekend, is it worth getting the jab as she has, most likely, been exposed? I'm all for the vaccine but she's had 2 other jabs in the last 3 months, is due her MMR booster next month and has just recovered from a cold... DD1 (5) started with a cold as well, then a cough for a couple of days and since yesterday, high fever and achy all over.

I think the guidance on my DS's leaflet said to still vaccinate even if you suspect they may have had it. Only confirmed swine flu excludes them I think.

I will try and find a link for you

and sorry ........ your poor dd

Will they test your DD1 to find out for sure? And can you delay DD2's jab until you find out?

MimieD · 29/01/2010 21:45

Hi thanks for the replies. No they won't test DD1. I picked up tamiflu for her tonight and will start this tomorrow if her fever is still high. So sad to see her like this..she's never ill otherwise. The last thing she had was chickenpox, nearly 3 years ago.
Think i'll go to nurse Monday and see what she says. Just hope the side effects of jab are not too bad...she was soooooo clingy for days after her MMR

Well Mimie, I've had the jab as I'm pregnant and all I got was a sore arm for a couple of days. The same goes for most folks I think. Hope your DD1 is better soon!

My child has already had swine flu. Does he/she still need the vaccine?
Only a small proportion of swine flu cases are confirmed by a laboratory test, so most people cannot be certain they have had swine flu. Young children should still have the vaccine, unless they have had a positive laboratory test for swine flu. It is safe to be vaccinated even
if you have already had swine flu.

Found this on department of Health information leaflet for parents. Sorry couldn't figure out how to link it!

My DS is getting his tomorrow and is always upset in the evening following immunisations.

Hope our LOs are both Ok.
