Ok, I think I've just strained it /set off achey back by wearing heels instead of flatties, but I've had a painful warm-feeling calf for a couple of days. There is no redness or swelling at all (I keep looking!).

The right hand side of my lower back is a bit achey, as is the right hand side of my foot, which is a bit crampy - wondering if it sounds like sciatica?

Don't want to bother the gp unnecessarily, so hoping stretching, anti-inflammatories, rest will do the trick (wine?). Have convinced myself that my leg will explode or something dramatic - slap me with a kipper please oh wise mners.

it won't explode. really.
have you got a tape measure handy? is there any difference between both calves?

It is highly unlikely to be anything dramatic. take a couple of anti-inflammatories, relax and if it'snot better by monday then do GP.
If it does explode over the weekend - better see someone sooner.

Please do not worry about bothering your GP.

Pain in your calf that feels warm, is a worrying symptom and I really would advise you to get it checked out. Honestly drs would rather reassure you that it's nothing than miss something. Maybe ring NHS direct if you you cannot go to GP on a Saturday.
