Copper coil fitted 3 weeks ago and have had spotting and cramping for the last couple of days- normal?

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2010 16:47

Had the coil fitted under a general anaesthetic during another procedure. Bled for a few days, then had pinky/brown discharge for another week. Then all cleared up.

The last couple of days I have had cramps and clear discharge with spots/streaks of blood.

My period, if day of insertion of coil was day 1, is due in around 5 days.

I don't know if spotting/cramping is something the coil is causing or something I should be worried about. Of course, I googled mid-cycle spotting and I probably have a week to live.

Have never had a coil before and not really sure what's normal and what isn't.

It's your period. The coil will be altering it.

You are not going to die

I hadthe Mirena coil fitted. The bleeding they said to expect last a few day's went on for 6 months. Then i had it removed.

I had thought the copper coil could make your period heavier. You may be lucky and it has made it almost non existent.

Stop googling

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2010 18:03

No, no, don't all reply at once, I can't keep up.

It's not my period. It can't be. It's only spotting and it has stopped now. I can't go from 6 days of medium bleeding to 2 days of feck all with a copper coil. It's non-hormonal. It's a copper interloper.

And why would the coil make it lighter? It wouldn't, it just wouldn't.

It's some terrible illness I just know it and it'll make me allergic to gingerbread amongst other things.

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 18:09

No it isn't.

The only other thing it could be is your lining is thickening in readiness for your period and the coil is burrowing (obv it isn't alive [hmm) settling in to place.

This could cause the spotting.

I love ya

largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 18:11

It can make it lighter. Less womb lining to attach to or something? I dunno. It has been years since i was taught this stuff.

Will go and dig the text books out.

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2010 18:12

I love you too ginny (and not just because you're the only person replying to this, that only confirms it for me).

Not alive? It's got fricking antennae.

These have landed on flowers!!

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2010 18:21

I've seen a photo of what happened after they mated.

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 18:33

Am reading.

Shush.

largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 18:50

Well i have trawled my Tortora and Grabowski and leafed through Obstetrics and gynaecology.

Just what i said already. Except that it is very common to have break through bleeding with the coil. Spotting is normal as are cramps. This settles usually within 3-4 months.

It did say that some women reject the coil as a foreign body and expel it. It could be happening.

It also said that this was unlikely as you have had a baby and are used to foreign bodies

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2010 19:01

Foreign body is dancing round the room like a girl possessed as I type. I wasn't very good at expelling her and she had weight and determination on her side, so don't like the coil's chance of escape.

This is why it's a contraceptive isn't it? Keep you bleeding so that you have neither the opportunity nor the energy to get it on with your poor, neglected dh.

Presumably, all of the scans (quite detailed) and the actual procedure I had 3 weeks ago would have highlighted anything obviously sinister? Yes?

Thanks for looking it up for me. You're my favourite.

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 19:07

They would have been able to see everything and been very detailed about it. You need to be before doing something like that.

Nothing sinister.

I think it may be true about the contraceptives. The 2 pills i am on a day have done naff all to alleviate the bleeding. Pretty sure i am becoming anaemic now.

I am giving it another 24hrs and throwing the towel in. It will be condoms and temping for me.

My cycle can surely not be any worse than bleeding continuously?

Are you feeling calmer?

Mine are watching Problem Child. Iam trying to shield B from it. He is problem enough and need's NO ideas

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2010 19:36

Much calmer. I just needed you to tell me to man up really.

Push for getting the gynae referral sorted. You're only ever working against the underlying problems. They must be able to do something.

Temping is reliable if you do it properly. I have a good book if you want?

He is not problematic. He is beautifully spirited. I love him.

If your midcycle and getting clear bloody discharge then it could be you ovulating ?

Since I had my copper coil I get crampy at ov time, I've never really noticed it before.

largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 19:53

OooH WORZEL you could be right!

Yes please to the book. Was just looking on Amazon for one.

I am out of Coke. It is quite desperate. Dh is duty and not back till tomorrow.

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2010 20:28

I always have ovulation cramps, it didn't feel like ovulation at all and I'm pretty sure I ovulated last week. And I've never bled when ovulating, but I suppose I've also never had a coil before.

Have Taking Charge Of Your Fertility. It is the book to have. Will post it to you.

Coke is utterly horrid. Have an earl grey. Or a cocktail.

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 20:38

at coke comment.

Have just had an earl grey.

Am on water now. That and crackers with Saint Agur.

My ovulation pains are not back yet y'know. How odd. I have just realised that.

Maybe the 7th child killed them while she was in there? Maybe i am just not ovulating again yet.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2010 20:45

Coke has bubbles in it. Tis the work of the devil, drinks that fizz, they'll invent motorised transport next. Heathens.

Cerazette you're on? Does that not suppress ovulation? I'll tell you what it doesn't suppress... bleeding.

You're unbalanced, you need no 8 to reset the normal balance. That's probably very funny if you're not you. I'm laughing.

Are you coming to see me soon?

I'm eating honey cut cornflakes.

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 20:50

It is supposed to. I just assumed it wasn't fecking working. Altough am not prg. But tbh that is because we are not having sex because of the bleeding.

These companies are taking us for a ride, non?

Half term maybe. Dh trying to get an extra few days off. The big children go to ex on the Saturday.

I would like to come first so as not to drive down one end of the country only to drive all the way up t'other.

So he needs Monday and Tuesday off really.

What do you think? Would be weekend of 12th Feb.

largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 20:51

It's like having our very own thread. Your's too Worzel.

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2010 21:05

So, hang on, wait, my poor brain's confused. What days would you come here? You have to take the big ones halfway to ex on the Saturday? What day are you wanting to arrive here?

It is our own thread. Let's talk about everybody else, they'll never know... I've seen BoF's boobs. Have you? Only in artistic representation obv, I haven't been schlepping up to the NW to stare at another MNer's bosoms. I think they're thoroughly magnificent.

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 21:26

Really

I would like to arrive on Sunday if that's pk. Would stay till dh offends you and you throw us out Tuesday.

We should have a mini meet. I want to meet BOF. Shiney too. Might be meeting her... with the fishy one.

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2010 21:38

Offend me? Nah I'm not frightened of the bully brute lovely sailor joe. DH is off on the Monday and Tuesday so that's ideal really. Not that he needs to be here, but I find it easier to get places when there's somebody legally allowed and physically able to drive in the car with me.

You'd be most welcome. I'll email you to sort out logistics. Well, you know, details beyond, just turn up whenever, try and leave DH stranded at the Bishop Stortford services on the way so that I can point and laugh when he eventually makes it out of there semi-alive.

Ooh I'm excited.

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 28/01/2010 21:44

I have just eaten a flake. A mini one but all the same.

I think i need to join that fatty thread. Wonder if it would actually motivate me or wheather i would be posting 'Yes, yes, have been very good today and lost 6lb' while eating a tub of lard

I hope he can get the time off. I could do with a break away from the norm and a Tild hug
