2 yr old has just had a huge nosebleed...

My God... i don't know where it all came from! One minute he was eating a ham sandwich in his highchair, the next minute, he was literally covered in blood and his nose was dripping like a tap!
Did i do the right thing in damping down a towel with cold water and holding it over the bridge of his nose? He started screaming and wriggling but after about 10 mins it stopped. He seems ok now although i'm waiting for it to happen again.

Any idea what might have caused it? I've never had a nosebleed and found it all slightly alarming for him.

My Niece has always been prone to Nose bleeds, as does her Dad. No reason for it.

If it happens again there is no harm going to the GP

Thanks Anniebear.. blood doesn't normally bother me but when theres such huge quantities coming from a little body, it worried me slightly!

It is very scary, I remember my Niece when she was about 8 and it poured and poured. My Sister was trying not to panic but got quite upset in the end as this big thing came out of my Nieces nose and we didn't know what to do with it! It was vile! It must have been a big clot but it was massive and just sat there hanging out of her nose!

In the end I think she got rid of it herself as we wouldn't touch it.ugggh!!

I remember poor ds getting a terrible nose bleed when he was only around 8 weeks old. I rushed him to the doctor (told them I needed an emergency appointment) - by the time I got there, it had stopped and the doctor said 'why is this an emergency, it's stopped bleeding hasn't it, a nosebleed is not the end of the world!'. I was spitting mad because he was so tiny and it looked like half his weight in blood had come out of his nose!

Anyway, both dd and ds and dh get them now and apparently unless they are happening frequently or you have trouble stopping them, there is no major cause for concern.

Thanks for all your input guys! I'm really worrying and keep checking on my ds in bed... he just took it all with a pinch of salt, bless him, and i was a complete mess!!

Both my kids get them quite a lot. I was called to the school the other day as my ds had one, by the time I get there it had stopped but she was a bit panicky and so I took her home, then she was running around the house so I took her back to the school in the afternoon!!!!

They seem to get them everytime they have a cold - I can cope with the blood, its the puking i can't cope with!!!!!
