ds2 due for mumps vaccine but the company we used look as though they are not trading anymore. Various rumours seem to be going around about no vaccine being produced. Has anyone managed to find somewhere still giving it?

Following is a message I added to the mumps petition message just copying here for you -

"I like some of you have two boys who are due their mumps booster and I am loathe to give them the MMR now as I made my decision to go for the single jabs when they were 13 months old.

I have just spoken to a clinic who said that another pharmaceutical company has produced the single mumps vaccine and it went in for testing in december. An outcome should be reached from March onwards. I am going to await the outcome for this vaccine and hopefully be able to complete my sons vaccination programme. I think it is disgusting of the government to halt single vaccine production what happened to parents choice! I haven't been irresponsible I have tried to vaccinate my children fully but am now hamperered by politics!!! having two boys also I am worried about the possible complications they could have from catching mumps! I hope they received lifelong immunity from their first jab but not sure this would be the case? "

Are you sure about that bowls? It was my understanding that Merck is the only company that is licenced to produce mumps vaccines and they have stopped production indefinitely. Nothing to do with the government

that is what I was told by a clinic in Worcester that they have another pharmaceutical company that has produced it and it is now off for testing and will hopefully if passed be available from March onwards. You are right it is not Merck that is producing the mumps vaccine and it was pressure from the government that stopped production because Merck also produce the triple vaccine and they want to concentrate on that! Other companies produce the measles and rubella vaccines so would assume it might be one of those companies that is now looking at producing the mumps vaccine.

I would be very cautious of believing anything you are told by a clinic that has a vested interest in selling you single vaccs. I cannot find any information about this 'other' company so I would go back and ask them who they are.

There are a lot of single vaccs clinics that have gone bust as a result of Merck's decision not to continue making single mumps vaccines. My clinic was very mealy mouthed about it and lots of people have lost money so be very careful

what about people though who are allergic to an ingredient in the triple who were able to get singles on the NHS? Anyone know anything about going to France for it? ds2 is 11 and asd and about to hit puberty. I have put it off for years because of all the controversy but don;t want him to get mumps at this delicate age

they couldn't really be selling me single vaccines as my boys have had them all apart from the mumps booster vaccine and I explained that over the phone so not sure they would be trying to con me because they want to sell me something Idon't need. You could be right but I would imagine that someone somewhere will produce a mumps vaccine as some people are sensitive to the MMR and cannot have it so can't imagine them not producing something for them!

My boys are not due their booster until April anyway and they are only 8 years old and as far as I am aware mumps is a mild illness (I had it as a child and was fine) and not dangerous to boys until the age of 11/12. I am not going to rush into the MMR as I have tried my best to avoid it.
