Cholesterol Level of 7.4

Hi - I'm due in March 2010. I am active, going to antenatal yoga and walking briskly to station etc. I eat healthily - pasta, fish, homemade pizza, sushi and haven't drunk in pregnancy. I've had a cholesterol result back as 7.4, which seems high, but also seems like there is nothing I can do.. Any thoughts?

was it a fasting test. Did you fast for 12 hours?

if it wasn't a fasting test get it re-done after 12 hour fast.

If still high (which is over 5)

eat porridge
use spreads like pro-active or benecol
follow a cholesterol reducing diet - see British Heart fondation

why do you think there is nothing you can do?

why did they measure your cholesterol?

Your cholesterol level is higher during pregnancy anyway, so 7.4 is not an accurate reflection of what your cholesterol level normally would be. You are better to get it rechecked 6 weeks after your baby is born, to get a more accurate picture, but I seem to remember that it will be still be raised if you breastfeed, however it is usually the High density lipids which are raised, which are beneficial for heart health.
Good luck with the baby!

Thanks. No it wasn't a fasting test, so I'm getting that done this week. No idea why they checked it - some blood tests were sent in and they just did it without being asked....
