Hi all,

I am a new mom and my 7 weeks old DD has just been diagnosed with RSV. She was born prematurely, 6 weeks earlier than expected. My doctor suggested a monthly treatment, but it is very expensive. I'm freaking our at the thought of DD gettin jabs every month Has anybody dealt with the same situation before? Is there a vaccine ?

The only vaccine shown to have any efficacy against RSV is 'Palivisumab', which is a specially-treated antibody that can reduce the severity of disease. Is this what your doctor is suggesting..?

Yup thats the one. He says DD needs five shots over five months. I have never heard of it and don't u think parents should be educated about it a little more ? and prolly the NHS should subsidise it like other vaccineS?
Thanks

I think the NHS does subsidise it, but you need a referral from a paediatric infectious diseases (PID) consultant who will probably have to make the judgement on whether your DD's underlying condition constitutes sufficient risk.

When you say "your doctor", is that a GP or a paediatrician? They should be able to make the referral to the regional PID network.
