Nerve Damage due to excess alcohol?

Has anyone any knowledge of this?

my brother is a big big drinker and I've just been on the phone to him and he says his hands fell numb and tingly, as do his feet.

He has apparently been experiencing this for over a month - it's worse when he drinks.

I'm so cross with him but mainly really really worried.

Could be diabetes. He needs to go to doctor.

I've told him so - he's a stubborn bugger though.

I think I might have to tell our parents - he'll hate me but it's important surely?

He's 20 - at uni

Yes, I think nerve damage can be caused by excess alcohol. Not medically qualified, just the experience of an alcoholic in the family. 20 sounds VERY young though to accumulate that kind of damage. I think IF it's caused by alcohol, there's something he can take to stop it worsening. But could also be a multitude of other things. Send him to his doctor.

Can be alcohol - unusual at his age though. How worrying - hope he can get to GPs and be truly honest, whatever is causing it, he needs to see someone.
