Lower abdomen pain - any ideas?

Had lower abdomen pain on my left hand side all day, about 1-2 inches to the left of where my almost 2 year old c-section scar finishes. Quite a constant dull ache but sharp at times, particularly when moving and is tender to the touch.

As sure as I can be that I am not pregnant, have had an ovarian cyst before but don't recall really having any pain with it. I came off the pill a few months ago and am roughly in the middle of my cycle. No pain on urinating or blood in stools etc, not constipated, no fever and feel otherwise well in myself.

Any ideas? Going to try and get doctors appointment tomorrow as NHS Direct were fairly useless.

hernia maybe? Can you see a bump at all?

FluffyForLifeNotJustForXmas · 10/01/2010 20:33

There's not really alot there that can cause pain, just a bit of intestine. Have you had your appendix taken out? Some people have them on the left side rather then the right.

Ewe · 10/01/2010 20:39

Nope, still have my appendix.

Can't see a bump but I have a bit of a tummy so don't think it would necessarily be visible. It just feels like pressure and then when I move it's a stabbing pain.

Ah well, hopefully the doc will have some ideas, thanks ladies.

It sounds like a hernia or it could also be a kidney stone possibly?

Your GP is your best bet. I hope everything's OK.

joyjoyjoy · 12/01/2010 20:59

What did the GP say? I've had similar for almost a year now and had 2 or 3 scans which have shown nothing - but the discomfort continues..I think it is cyclical because it seems to be worse in the week after my period and sometimes I get period-type back ache too..am baffled.

Ewe · 13/01/2010 08:52

Kidney infection - probably not much help for you joyjoy!

Thanks fluffy, you were almost spot on

joyjoyjoy,

Endometriosis can cause cyclical pains and it will not show up on any scan as the endometrical deposits are so small.
