Thinking of getting one of these, but worried about possible heavy bleeding, discomfort etc. Anyone have positive experience of this method? If you had heavier bleeding to begin with, did it settle down, and how long did this take? Do you feel normal; normal libido etc? Thanks.

I have an IUD fitted. And I find it great.

My periods are heavy for the first 2 days but that's it. No discomfort, wouldn't even know it was there to be honest!

Got it fitted after having my second child 17 months after my first! Needed to be sure I wouldn't get pregnant again in a hurry

It was uncomfortable being fitted, but not more than a smear for me.

But I feel normal, normal labido etc.

To be fair I think I should say I also had one before my first child too. To be completely accurate. LOL

As the pill and I didn't agree...

Used them for 20 yrs, and no problems, have very heavy clotty periods due to PCOS & Endo and less pain with it in. (can't use any hormone things)

I have one, and have heavier periods, but not longer, just much heavier for 2-3 days (better with mooncup than tampax). I didn't even notice it being put in - didn't hurt at all. I've had annual scans to check it's in the right place, which it is.

Hi
Would recommend. No problem having it put in. No side effects apart from heavy periods which did settle down after few months.
Excellent for peace of mind, no hormones and long term solution to contraception, will definately get another one once this baby is born!

Thanks, all, that's very reassuring. Having tried mini-pill, pretty sure hormonal methods are not for me either. So this looks like a possible solution. Any more feedback welcome...

Had one fitted after birth of 2nd baby, no problems at all. Slightly painful having it fitted but not much more than a smear test.

well, here's a not so good one for oyu- had it fitted at 45 after 2 PGs.

Found insertion pretty painful- and I had both DCs without even a whiff of gas or anything. Might have been down to length of time since last PG.

Dr had to abandon 1 coil and try different shape.

Bled constantly fo 2 weeks till period, then bled afterwards- in the end went ot FPC who removed it, saying it was half out anyway.

However, I have friends who have had them and been pleased.

Maybe my dr was a bit cack handed- not sure- expert gynae later told me I have a retroverted uterus so this could make insertion more tricky- maybe that wasn't known when I had it fitted.
