dd2 is 5 months and despite excl bf on demand and all day and night, my periods have returned. but this has got to be the worst period i have ever had, i am flooding tampons and towels and i have to keep changing my clothes. is this normal?
I have never had heavy periods before, but then have been on the Pill for most of the time when i havent been pg.
is this a normal thing after having a baby? i cant remember whether it was like this with dd1!

Hi Olivo, my DD is 11 months now and my periods are still v. heavy (although only for the first day). She's my second child so maybe this happens more after the second? I don't remember things changing so much after my first.

So I would think it's pretty normal, especially if it's your first one post-childbirth.

Maybe see what the next one's like and talk to GP if still concerned?

I had this both times. First periods were horrific.

ds1 - after 9 months, I'd finished bf him at 7 months

ds2 - after 9 months. I was still bf him.

Unfortunately they have never really settled. I was on the pill until ttc ds1 so don't really know what a normal period for me is like. I now take tranexamic acid to control the flow of the bleeding.

Hope you're more lucky than me.

thanks, it is so depressing. i have had to change my knickers 5 times and my clothes 3 times as well as wash bedding. it is enough to make me want to stop bf so i can go back on the pill, although someone mentioned that you can take the mini pill while bf, so that might lighten them.
i'm only pleased it has already started as i am going on holiday in a couple of ays and it would be miserable trying to travel with this
