Anyone who had SPD 5+ years ago ?

I had SPD when pregnant with DS (he is now 5.5) - I was on crutches for the last few months of pregnancy but as soon as I gave birth managed fine without them and it slowly improved.

I've (very occasionally) had the odd twinge but generally fine.

However this week my pelvis feels really achey and I'm not sure whether its down to:

a) having had a break from Pilates for a few weeks

b) too much sledging

c) something else

Those of you with a similar timescale since your SPD pregnancy -do you still get aches like this? What causes them in your case? What can I/should I do?

I didn't expect to still be feeling the effects over 5 years later.

Hi - I had SPD with my DS who is now 8. Although it was not as bad as yours, I still now get twinges when I have overdone things. I had another baby inbetween (she is now 4) without TOO many problems, but it seems that once the pelvis is weakened you are never the same again.

yes my youngest is 8 and I get twinges like this every now and then

normally when I've done an activity that would have aggravated the SPD if I still had it (so something like football where you are using one leg without the other, or heavy carrying iyswim)

I have come to terms with the fact that it will always be this way tbh

(also check you aren't pregnant again but I imagine it was the physical effort of the sledging)

do exercises to strengthen your lower back - the physio gave me some (8 years ago!) and I do them every now and then and they do help

Thanks for your replies.

hhunter- I think you might be right about once weakened your pelvis never being the same again.

foxinsocks - hope its not pregnancy. DP had a vasectomy last year (although admittedly he hasn't taken his second sample in yet to get the all clear).

herbietea -the Pilates has been really good. I started it a year after DS was born and the instructor is a good one with lots of experience in Pilates after injuries, back problems, various conditions etc. I think its because I haven't done it for about a month that maybe things have weakened (and of course the sledging doesn't help!)

Also, interesting point about it getting worse just before your period as mine is due any day so maybe thats a contributing factor.
