How to deal with a nasty cough?

This week I have had a nasty flu like bug. Had me virtually bed bound for the first 2 days, and then past 2 days have been in PJs on sofa.

My temp is down a lot now -back to 37s, so higher than normal, but not fever anymore.

The aches and pains have subdued a lot.

I am very lethargic and have little energy.

But the cough. It is just awful and not improving. It came on day 2 and here now. I cough with almost every other breath, even if doing nothing. Had to go to door for Ocado earlier and the effect of cold air sent me into coughing spasm, then bringing the shopping upstiars to kitchen did the same. Still not out food away yet as needed to sit down and rest.

The cough is really wearing me out. It is all day and during the night. It makes me hurt as ghink the muscles are strained from so much coughing. My throat feels like sandpaper as a result of too much coughing. It is a very dry cough, not a productive one as such.

Sipping water does help - but it is only temporarily, as I sip the water. Have drank so much water - at least my skin should be good after this week!

A shower/bath again helps temporarily whilst I am in there a it (steam?) but I find the process tiring so can't shower/bath for long.

DH brought home the most vile mecicine home recommended by chemist - Pulso Baileys - but even that isn't really helping.

Anything else can do to help it?

I'm the same, had it since before christmas and tried everything. I have just been snorting sudafed inhalant up my nose as I read about eucalyptus being good on the internet, I had some in s thought I' tried where all else has failed and that seems to be doing the trick.

I had a similar thing before Christmas and it turned into a chest infection I found putting olbas oil into hot water and inhaling helped - it is the steam!

Honey and lemon soothed my throat and in the end I had to take anti-biotics to clear my chest completely as I couldn't breathe in enough to cough properly.

I do hope you feel better soon
