Please talk to me about CERAZETTE...

I have been prescribed the Cerazette pill.

Periods only returned after DS2 (who is nearly 2) in May and I have had ten or eleven pretty heavy periods since then. Cycles anything from 45 days to 16 days long so a bit all over the place really. PLus have had much more marked PMT, with fairly black moods and irritability since then too. Am overweight and put off asking my GP for contraception as the pill is my method of choice but I do not want anything to increase my weight any further.

Anyhoo, she has put me on Cerazette, and I am now sitting here wait to come on and to start it, but I am nervous and two or three friends have said it made them feel more than a little crazy. I am worried. Do not want that to happen.

Please come and tell me your experiences with it...thanks in advance...

I had it when I was bf DS about 3 years ago. I didn't like it, I felt depressed while I was on it, but like it was the pill doing it, not PND. And IIRC I had to take one every day (no breaks) at a certain time, my previous pill was more forgiving so if I was a couple of hours out it didn't matter. I stopped it after 4 months and felt better for it. See how you get on though, I'm sure it won't affect everyone badly, just keep an eye on your moods.

I have been on it for at least 2 years now with no problems. I have also not had any periods for most of that time. It has a 12 hour window to take it so I take mine in the morning so I have the whole day to remember to take it if I accidentally miss one.

I had been on it for 6 months and behaved like a mad woman and had to come off. Hated it! But it must obviously depend on the female make up. I have since come off Nov 08 and am still awaiting a period. Not sure if the pill was to blame or starting the menopause.

I was recently on it for 10 months and had a 24 day period to start with, but then no periods whatsoever.
I also had terrible moods, I cried all the time and didn't want to go out or socialise, or go to work. I mainly wanted to stay in bed. I have never been like this before.

I also used to be a small size 10, now am a size 14/16 and I don't want to blame it all on the pill but think it may have been that that caused weight gain.

Have been off it for a month and have no intention of ever taking that demon pill ever again!!! Don't know why I didn't stop sooner.

I've been on it for 3.5 years now and have had totally bizarre periods the whole time. I was never one of those "every 28 days" people before, it varied by a few days, but since taking Cerazette I can have had 3 week periods, 3 periods in a month, a week bleeding, a week off, a week bleeding again etc. Totally unpredictable.

I also feel a more fragile, insecure and tired than I used to but I don't know if that's the pill or not. Hoping to start ttc later this year so will be interesting to see if any of this changes.

I went on Cerezette in May after the birth of my dd at 6weeks post birth- from then on I bled for 13 weeks continously, sometimes very heavy and sometimes light but it never stopped for even a day. I went back to my GP and she said to take two pills everyday instead as it would be a hormonal problem. I haven't had any bleeding since but I don't like the idea of taking double doses for too long.

Forgot to say- taking two pills a day has been fine- no crazy woman syndrome here, feel fine and periods have stopped. I was on it before getting pregnant with dd for about a year and all was fine then too. Took the combined pill for about 10 years previous to this but was taken off by GP as my mother was diagnosed with hotmonal breast cancer.
