I have been unwell for days now and today I could not get out of bed which is really unusual for me. Please tell me your swine flu symptoms. It may just be a really bad flu virus thing but I want to check. Thanks

I don't know if dd has flu or swine flu

she has had a temperature for 6 days now (since Monday)

started Sunday night when she woke up saying she felt really unwell

Monday/Tuesday she was in bed the whole day and had very high temperature (like 40C but this quite typical when she is ill)

since Wednesday has just been a low grade fever (sort of 38ish), today she had a temp spike for about half an hour, other than that not too bad but she has no energy and looks GREY!

She said she felt sick in her tummy, has a phlegmy cough and the thickest green snot I've ever seen

She's definitely had flu - whether it's swine flu or not I don't know but I'm hoping she will have recovered enough to go back to school next week. I made her go for a little walk outside (like for 10 minutes!) because I thought the fresh air would do her good but she came back and collapsed in bed! It has totally wiped her out poor thing.

Everybody gets it differently which is why there's such a list of potential symptoms and advice that just 2 of them could be swine flu.

I know 2 people who were swabbed and confirmed as having it. One seemed to have a food poisoning/stomachy type thing with vomitting/diarrhoea and a very high temperature with sweating. The other had a terrible cold and cough and suffered with sinus pain and a sore chest.

So, basically, who knows?

Hope you feel better.

bargainhuntingbetty · 02/01/2010 17:06

Ahh poor dd. Hope she gets better soon. It may be worth ringing nhs24 to see if maybe they will see her, what age is she?

I dont know if there is a flu virus thing going about just now. I have been in bed most of today which is so not like me and my dd has just come back from her friends house and they have the same thing, not sure what it is tho. Is it Swine flu:? Dont know

My dd had a really high temperature which lasted days, she was wiped out and couldn't get out of bed. She also had diarrhoea.

bargainhuntingbetty · 02/01/2010 17:11

With the exception of a few hours on new years eve I havent had a temp. Have had extremems of hot and cold, have a raging sore throat, sore neck, and banging sore head. Have still been hungry and have not had sickness or diahorea (spelling?), dont know what I have but I feel really really ill and pray that no one else in the house comes down with it.

oh no, not bothering with the docs. It's definitely flu, she's fine in herself iykwim. She's on the mend. Thanks though!

hope you get better soon! there are a lot of nasties doing the rounds at the moment!

foxinsocks · 02/01/2010 17:12

have you looked at your throat? maybe you have tonsilitis?

bargainhuntingbetty · 02/01/2010 17:14

I have looked at my throat and I dont have tonsils but I cannot even see if my throat is red never mind anything else, the lighting in our house is shocking and I dont want to treck to the OOH if it is a virus thing its too cold out lol

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 02/01/2010 17:17

lol, yes I know what you mean and I always think you go to those places and sit there wondering what the hell else you are picking up!

the lighting in our house is like that too - those blardy energy saving dark light bulbs

I'm amazed they are allowed to call them light bulbs!

bargainhuntingbetty · 02/01/2010 17:19

LOL I would agree with that statement about the dark Light bulbs. Thank you for replying x

Am thinking it may be a throat infection, I was thrown by the headache etc but I didnt realise that could be the infection making me feel like htat. Can I treat it without going to the gp????

i think I've had swine flu in November , i was in bed for 5 days (not like me at all) couldn't stop shivering with the cold even though we had put two duvets on the bed , sore throat , neck & shoulders , vomiting , & a really bad headache that lasted 3 days , also my breathing became very bad & i was put on steroid tablets to help , after the flu like symptoms wore off i ended up with a chest & lung infection ....
i really hope you don't have it & are feeling better soon .

bargainhuntingbetty · 02/01/2010 17:34

Up until today I have been able to get up and function even tho I have felt rotten. I dont think I have Swine Flu now reading over all the evidence etc but I can say for sure that if this is how I feel now then I do not want swine flu.

PDR · 02/01/2010 17:38

I think I had it over Xmas.

Symptoms were:

40 degree temp but felt cold and shiverey
Seriously bad headache which did not respond to paracetomol
Sore throat
Achey joints
Dizziness
Tiredness
Diarrhea

I just dosed up with paracetomol and ibruprofin and stayed in bed. It lasted about a week then I started to feel better.

blinks · 02/01/2010 18:39

tonsillitis has high temp, sore to swallow and white spots.

swine flu frequently has respiratory involvement, abdo pain/gastro with cold symptoms plus high temp.

bargainhuntingbetty · 03/01/2010 15:28

Am no better today and throat is still really really sore, am having real trouble eating anything. Think I will have to call OOH and get them to help as I dont think I can wait till Tuesday till the gp's open again.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 04/01/2010 08:02

hope you are feeling better now!

BrokenArm · 04/01/2010 08:22

My symptoms have been:
Mild head-cold/sinus thing and powerful lethargy, with recurrent uncontrollable chills, accompanied by some aches and bad nausea (high fever makes me throw up a lot).

Whenever I took paracetomol the chills/aches/nausea abated to be replaced by profuse sweating. I don't have a thermonitor, but I presume I was running a high fever to cause the chills/nausea/ache/subsequent sweating.

I got a Tamiflu prescription on the basis of that description... and Tamiflu has appeared to work to get me better.

bargainhuntingbetty · 04/01/2010 11:00

Brokenarm this sounds exactly like what I had, I mean you could have been describing me with the exception of the throat, I have also had a raging sore throat which is only now starting to subside (5 days later). Oh I wonder if I should have been at the gp and been diagnosed then. OOOpsss

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 04/01/2010 13:02

I imagine the GPs are snowed under bargain. Doubt you need to go unless you're not getting better or have other health probs - I guess it's too late for the tamiflu (we never got it in the end for dd because she was starting to get better). I'm glad you are on the mend.

Dd is now fully recovered thank goodness. Was a horrible flu (whether swine flu or not!). Luckily she's 9 now but I imagine if that had hit a little infant, it would have been nasty. She also had the shivering. She kept saying I don't understand why I feel so cold when you keep telling me I'm so hot! Was quite good for her understanding of the human body!

BrokenArm · 04/01/2010 14:37

Glad to hear you're getting better, Bargain. I think I only got the Tamiflu on the basis that if it didn't work then therefore they could rule SF out and prepare to treat me for something else -- coz I didn't want to live with it any longer than I had to!!
