Mini pill and alarming cycle, please reassure me...

I have been on the mini pill for almost 3 months. I took it a week in to my first period after having dc7.

The period lasted 2 weeks. I had about 5 days no bleeding and period started again. Lasted 10 days then off for 10 days.

Period again lasted 10 days off for 10 days. It was getting ridiculous.

Then last month i had a smidge of bleeding at the 10 day mark. I waited for it to get worse. Nothing.

10 days later and the same thing a smidge.

I have notoriously hideous periods. Very heavy and lasting a good 2 weeks. My cycle can be anything from 32-52 days.

However i have been prg or bf for almost 12 years now.

I am normally on the combined pill so well versed in the cycle changes there. I am high risk for that now. DVT (Dads side) and migraines.

What the hell is going on?

Help me please!

Fistly, and you are going to HATE me for saying this but perhaps a pg'cy test? The pill really needs to be taken religiously at the same time each day for it to be as affective as possible. Besides you are miss fertility as we know. [scared]

Is it safe yet?

OK, now, the mini pill is notorious for break through bleeds and irregular cycles. There are a few different types on the market and you need to find the one for you. I changed mine 2mths ago as I was having very annoying break through bleeds and my cycle was all over the place on Microval. So far this new one "Varnoline" seems to be SO much better, it is a combination of the combined and mini pill and has a very small amount of estrogene in it but it is still a 28 day pill and as I'm aware still good for those at higher risk of the combined pill.

I know your dr will probably suggest you waiting longer but personally all the changes to my pills have been pretty quick so maybe you could ask to try another?

Oh I forgot, Happy New Year my lovely!

largeginandtonic · 02/01/2010 12:12

and Happy New Year.

I am on one that allows you to have a 12 hour window instead of the 3 hour one with a normal POP.

I have not been religious with the timming. I just take it before bed whenever that may be.

Could that be making the cycle more irregular?

I am KINDA hoping that this is the miracle pill tbh and i have found one that gives me one of those little smidgy bleeds like some women get every month. I have always dreamed of those...

I don't think the timing would help making things more regular, I take mine before bed too at whatever time that may be so I'm not a very good girl really, but then don't you have to perform some sort of deed to fall pregnant? not sure why I'm on it tbh!

lets hope it's your miracle pill, tbh, if you are not pregnant and the bleeds are tiny then it sounds like it could be! Woo Hoo! [hopeful]

largeginandtonic · 02/01/2010 12:46

Stop saying that word.

I am off out now. Will check back later for more people to tell me this a miracle cure to all things gynae horrid.

Ta my lovely

Now I know fark all about the mini pill but because I love you I have searched the archives on here.

Seems like you're the norm as opposed to the exception. Many, many people talking about regular and prolonged bleeds every 10 days that get lighter and settle to nothing or only a tiny amount of bleeding. Others bleeding lots, some no bleeds at all.

Another google reveals it works better if you take it at the same time every day, even though you may have a 7hr window.

I do think any pill you take is only a mask to a problematic cycle/gynae issues and you should pursue getting those sorted asap alongside continuing the mini pill if it's otherwise not causing problems.

Or you're pregnant.

JamInMyWellies · 02/01/2010 13:20

BLoody Nora woman. I know nothing of the mini pill. Get thee down to boots and pick up a test at least it will put your mind at rest. Clearly we will all be delighted for you if you are preg.

largeginandtonic · 02/01/2010 18:37

I am not prg. I have been in a shop with a prg test and not bought it.

Jam stop with the you would all laugh your HEADS OFF at me and you know it.

Thank you Gingerbread That was just what i wanted to hear. I assume i am one of the lucky ones and this particular pill has helped. Huzzah!

Am still on the list for the cosultant and will probably end up with a hysterectomy in the future.

I have some pretty awful backache right now and assume that a period may be on the way. Not so huzzah but still.

Backache's deffo not a pregnancy symptom. Nope. Not even a little bit.

You're not pregnant, tis a pill that suits you I think.

Seona1973 · 02/01/2010 18:52

is it cerazette? I havent had a period for around 2 years on this mini-pill which is pretty great!

largeginandtonic · 02/01/2010 18:54
