DS HAVING MMR TODAY, VERY WORRIED!! WILL HE BE OK?

Its strange, I thought I would of been fine, and I was until today. Ds's MMR is today at 2pm. I was awake on and off through the night thinking about it.

Ds ended up in hospital after his 1st injections through a reaction, then he had an ear infection and had a reaction to penicillin.
Im really worried as it seems like 1 thing after another.
Should I give him calpol and nurofen after he has his injections?? Many advice would be of great help. Thanx

I'd give calpol about 20min. before the injection.

I am very keen on jabs normally, but why did he end up in hospital after his other jabs? That would put me off getting one again.

Hiyam he had a reaction and I gave him calpol but It didnt bring his temperature down, so they took him in to try and bring it down. They just said he had a reaction to his injections, Im concerned as this is the BIG MMR, so I am even more worried.

if you are so worried perhaps you should consider singles? Otherwise you have to trust that if the doctors think it is OK for him then it is. But don't feel forced.

But measles could kill him.. not telling you what to do, but keep in mind it may be a case of lesser of 2 evils.

If it was just fever then giving calpol pre-emptively should really help prevent fever happening. How old is he?

DS first mmr jab resulted in a rush to hossy. He began to fit etc. Was prescribed with calpol and nurofen being alternated and was fine by the next day.

can you talk to the gp about what they think caused the last reaction - was it an allergy to one of the ingredients ? Can they make sure that the mmr doesn't have that ingredient. If he reacted to the penicillin too then maybe he is an allergic person. Although maybe now he is older he will not react again.

I would cancel the appointment and talk things through with the gp first. Work out whether to do the mmr, singles or nothing.

I don't think anyone who vaccinates does it without anxiety. There has been so much controversy that it is natural to worry. However, this nust be exacerbated in your case because of his previous raection. Presumably you have discussed this with your doctor?

I'm not surprised you're worried. My ds is having his pre-school booster of MMR (plus all the others) tomorrow and I'm getting worried all over again (he's 5 btw!).
This will probably end up in a debate over pro and neg vaccinations but even if you are happy with the decision to go ahead it is still a worrying time. Good luck - if he has them now I hope he is ok.

Hiya all, and many thanx. I have just been on the phone to my GP, and she said that the likely hood of him needing calpol today is very slim, she said that if they do have a reaction it will be in about 10days as the jab has an incubation period. But still its a worry. After all the controversy mums really don't know what to do for the best. My ds is 17m and very late in having his, as they always made appointments too far in advance and he always became ill on or about the time. My ds2 who is 9ys has it, but I was only 16 at the time and just went without much of a thought, but as always the case am older and wiser now and far morrrre bloody worried.

My DS is currently at the hospital having his with DH as he is allergic to egg and the doctors surgery wouldn't do it just in case.
He had it at 10.30 and has to stay in the ward until 1.30, so should hopefully be home soon.

God - I didn't think about the 10 day incubation period. Dh and I are going away next weekend and leaving him overnight for the first time with his grandparents. Not the best time for him to get a temperature (especially as I know my mil is very unlikely to give him calpol).

I take Dd on tues for her MMR she has just turned 2.

yes the doctor did say to me about that egg allergy. Very frightening. Im just goin to set off now. Will tell all when I come home,

I think having the mmr is generally safe. However, if I had a child who had allergic reactions to other injections I would be more wary and want to have all the details of possible causes of the reaction explained first of all.

Hope it goes ok, and he doesn't react. None of my 3 had any obvious reaction to the mmr.

update, well ds had his mmr, after speaking to the nurse and looking through his notes they said he had a reaction to he 1st injections because of the whooping cough. He had his mmr with a bit of a twinge but no tears shed, thankfully. He does seem fine now, scoffing down his tea, so no change there. He did have a sleep when he came home. Hopefully he will be fine, I will just have to make sure I have calpol in, in 10days time, in-case he has a temperature then.
