anyone got any experience of this? He is under the impression that his (admittedly violent) coughing has done him a damage. Completely self-diagnosed, of course...

what can I do to a) stop him groaning dramatically every time he moves, sneezes, hiccups and b) stop myself slapping him?

He has got pneumonia and should go to hospital ASAP.

Sounds like he has either cracked a rib (quite possibvle) or damagesd ythe muscles in between the ribs. Both are excrutiatingly painful so stop being such a cow and give him some sympathy!

And yes, bonsior has a point and it could be pneumonia.

I damaged my intercostal muscles once with too much coughing. Hurt like hell.

I imagine you are not in the mood to take DCs for an evening in Kings so get him to ring NHS Direct.

oh dear, I fear my joviality (read - red wine) has translated as lack of care.

I do care, I do. He's not a hypochondriac. And the doc did say something about bronchitis.

I'm just sour bc when the chest pain started, I suggested bruised/ cracked ribs and was virtually ignored. Then his crackpot sister mooted it and it became gospel...

thanks for your replies.
