Asthma flared up after contact with glade plug ins!

Returned yesterday from sil's for 4 days asthma terrible the whole time. Her whole house reeking of plug ins and scented candles and pot pourri just horrible, I've never had such bad asthma.

Anyway my point is I had thought my asthma would get better when I left, but still struggling and using my bricanyl 4-5 times a day(I normally need it about 1 a week) + brown preventer.

does anyone know if I'm likely to recover by myself or should I go and see gp?

go and see your Gp to get some reassurance I think.

These chemical plug ins are the devil's work as far as I'm concerned - I hate them witha vengeance. I don't know why any health conscious person would have them polluting their house .

and relax!
Good luck

3littlefrogs · 28/12/2009 16:27

I agree.

If your house is clean you don't need all these chemical irritants that make people ill.

comefollowthatstarwithme · 28/12/2009 16:30

They set off DP's asthma too.
They are barred from this house.

sunburntats · 28/12/2009 16:31

Im not even asthmatic and they make me wheeze!
Go to Docs, to be safe x

mumonthenet · 28/12/2009 16:35

they are lethal things.

Never mind the advertisements showing leafy woodland glades, and white frothy seas - they are pumping chemicals into your home.

Your asthma will probably take a few days to calm down - your bronchials are intensely irritated (as are you!)

catinthehat2 · 28/12/2009 16:55

SChroeder, are your clothes and possessions contaminated as well do you think? CAn you wash or air stuff?
It might be that something like a coat has picked up the smells (and you can no longer smell it) and it's setting you off again.

schroeder · 28/12/2009 18:18

Thankyou for your lovely advice and reassurance.

Am washing everything and will be going to gp if I can get an appointment.

They really are evil-if you google glade plugins you can find lots of horror stories about how they cause house fires too eek.

Yep evil things - affects my asthma terrible and a friend of mine was ill for 2 days after sleeping in a room withone on and she wasn't even asthmatic!

TheCrackFox · 28/12/2009 18:28

I am not ashmatic but they make me a bit wheezy too. I really don't understand the point of them TBH.

TheFoosa · 28/12/2009 18:54

we can't use anything like that (DP asthmatic)

can't use anything with lavender in either

SleighGirl · 28/12/2009 18:58

Have you got any antihistamine you can take as you may actually be allergic to all the scents in them that would aggrevate your asthma.

I have lots of pollen allergies and they may me wheeze even though I don't have asthma. work of the devil I agree!

I'm a 58 yr old male who was diagnosed as a mild asthmatic 20 years ago. I always knew that car fresheners caused problems for me but I just discovered last night that Glade air freshener candles cause me to have severe breathing difficulties. I totally agree that these things are toxic and I can see from Mumsnet, and numerous other websites, that many other people are suffering in the same way. If this is the case, why can't we have these, and auto-dispensers banned?
