Suspected heart attack after food poisoning

My sister has just been admitted to hospital early hours this morning...since Sat after eating a meal at a local restaurant she has had food poisoning which has got gradually worse...she woke early hours with chest pains so her dh rang an ambulance, now they are suspecting a heart attack...could food posoning cause heart attack?
anyone know anything about it?

Food poisioning can cause an increased load on her heart and result in a heart attack but, riding a rollercoaster could do exactly the same. In other words maybe but only if she was likely to have a heart attack in the near future.

The hospital will run tests looking for an enzyme that is released by damaged heart tissue. If this reading is high then she has had a heart attack.
