Hi everyone, just dithering here really, and wanted some other opinions..

DS is 2, he's got a temp of about 39 and a horrible cough. he has a history of getting wheezy with colds, we sometimes end up in the hospital and a day on the nebuliser usually sorts it out. We have salbutamol at home to help manage this.

So, i have been managing this bout with calpol, neurofen and the salbutamol. the Temp came on on Saturday, he saw an out-of-hours doc on Sunday who said just carry on as we were. Thing is he's still hot and breathing quite fast - although no grunting or sucking-in which are my 2 real warning signs for him. so, Dr said call the Swine Flu hotline, they said not necy SF, but possibly flu, so we will prescribe AVs.

To finally get to the point (!) i'm in 2 minds whether to get them - i've heard they can cause vomiting and that the only purpose they serve is to shorten the symptoms by a day or so - also that you have to catch it within the first 48hrs, which we haven't done? so, i'm a bit confused as to whether they are going to be of any help to him... What would you do?

(sorry this is a bit long!)

I think we're a day ahead of you. Temp seems to be down today, main symptoms now nasty cough, still off food and very very tired.

I think it's too late for tamiflu - dd didn't have it but was definitely wondering on Sunday if we had made the right decision.

thanks for your reply. i've asked my sis to pick them up for us, so i can defer the decision-making for another hour or 2!!

i was in the same situation as you about 5 months ago. i got the tamiflu but never used it. my ds was diagnosed on the hotline on the basis he had temp that was it. i went with my instinct and never gave him it because if he really had flu he would of been bed bound. the hotline is just a case of computer says no or computer says yes no human makes the diagnosis just a computer. just go with your instincts and good luck hope your ds gets better soon
