I have bizarrely and for no apparent reason got aching muscles all over my entire body. WTF

I feel otherwise ok, quite tired but what is new. I have 1 year old who feeds half the night etc etc. The aching started on Friday - i had embarrassingly been doing mad disco dancing with ds1 on Thurs, so thought it was that, then i had a busy day on Friday including giving blood in the evening. Saturday woke up and could hardly get down stairs. Incredibly stiff and sore. Ibuprofen does help but it is actually worse today and even hurts to do things like write a letter, change a nappy. Dp having day working from home tomorrow as I can't carry baby down stairs.

WTF is happening? Dp maintains it was giving blood after a busy week and just being generally tired and run down, but that would not cause drastic muscle pain like this surely? It's just odd. And worrying. Any ideas?

well this sounds just like flu darling

or mastitis - any soreness of boobies? If not then it is flu I suspect, but you will improve slowly but surely

FrannyandZooey · 13/12/2009 18:31

boobs are fine - i don't see how it can be flu as i am not ill in any other way and it's been going on for days

it's freaking me out

mad disco dancing could have contributed, plus the giving of blood after (presumably) unaccustomed exercise would mean that your muscles could have been deprived of some percentage of the nutrients they needed to recover; or it has the possibility of being flu but I think you'd notice other symptoms as well if it was.

If it's muscular, it should all be gone by tomorrow - if it's no better then go to the doc.

FrannyandZooey · 13/12/2009 18:32

oh - i have a bit of a sore throat, but i think that's because i did a lot of shouting on friday

What's your temp?

It really does SOUND like flu to me

Are you obviously ill in any other way e.g. blue streaks running up and down your legs or bright yellow skin

morningpaper · 13/12/2009 18:33

aha sore throat

maybe strep?

FrannyandZooey · 13/12/2009 18:34

thanks thumble - would it definitely have gone by tomorrow if disco dancing? i expected it to be better today but was worse

ok considering these are kind of flu like symptoms does that mean i should not go to gps? ours has notices all over saying "GO AWAY IF ILL"

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 13/12/2009 18:35

what is strep? god i am a bit nervy about this
i don't have a thermometer, i feel cold, but it is cold isn't it?

OP posts:
morningpaper · 13/12/2009 18:36

I would see GP in the morning IF IT WAS ME and demand a throat swab for Strep and then if it is (usually a 24 hour turnaround with me but I really moan LOADS) then take antibiotics

How do you not have a thermometer? What does MrZooey think about your temperaturE?

FrannyandZooey · 13/12/2009 18:38

mr zooey always says i feel ok, even when i know perfectly well i have temp
he is adamant this is caused by giving blood (he is scared of giving blood and does not really approve of me doing it)
can i still breastfeed on antibiotics? what is strep? is it bad?

should have - muscular "strains" from unaccustomed overwork are usually worse the second day afterwards (although I must admit you are a day out, it should have been a bit achey on Friday, worse on Saturday, then better by today but as I (and your DH) said, the blood-giving has probably exacerbated it.

Always amazed me how one day you could barely walk/breathe and the next morning it was as if nothing had happened...

FrannyandZooey · 13/12/2009 18:43

oh really
well i do hope you are right thumble
of course now talking to MP i am feeling most throaty and a bit shivery and altogether poorly really
but tbh i often feel a bit crap by this time of the evening, it's just the muscle thing is weird
i mean i am unfit and should not have been leaping around
but why do my WRISTS ache for instance? was i dancing with my wrists???

OP posts:
saggarmakersbottomknocker · 13/12/2009 19:27

I had a arthritic type reaction to Strep. Twas grim. More joint type pain than muscles though but definitely involved my wrists and hands - couldn't even lift the kettle.

Feel better soon F&Z.

littlerach · 13/12/2009 19:31

Are you eating well

Nice to see you Fran!

FrannyandZooey · 13/12/2009 21:33

hello, thank you! i am eating moderately well, lots of room for improvement though
maybe new year will give me a kick up the backside

right dp is now agreeing it is probably viral
maybe it will just go away?

OP posts:
morningpaper · 14/12/2009 10:39

How are you today Franny?

FrannyandZooey · 14/12/2009 11:59

thanks mp, have seen doctor who says a virus, will 'probably' be gone in a week, i am 'probably' not infectious, i should try to rest, that was it

i can't lift ds2 or do things like change his nappy! dp is helping but should be working
god i hope it goes soon

OP posts:
ThumbleBells · 14/12/2009 12:53

oh Franny, bad luck .
Are you still taking the ibuprofen? It should continue to help with the inflammation that is causing you to ache so much (unless the doc has specifically told you to stop taking it)

ThumbleBells · 14/12/2009 12:55

This is probably overkill, but I would phone your local Transfusion Centre and tell them that you are infected have a virus - they might choose to pull your donation. They might not, and it might have already gone out of course, but I would still give it a go (I used to work in a transfusion centre many years ago but can't remember what we would have done)

FrannyandZooey · 14/12/2009 18:13

oh shit you're right
oh lord i'll do it now
what an idiot i am, thank you
