Very heavy periods still - 1 year after c-section.

I had an emergency c-section (was 9cm dilated) almost a year ago, and expected heavier periods, but they are getting worse. I can literally feel it pouring out of me. I also get some small clots. I'm not in pain and my periods aren't longer in duration, just unbelievably heavy.

I am due a smear soon and will speak to the nurse but perhaps I should be doing something sooner or is this fairly common even after a year?

Many thanks

I get periods like this. I think it's to do with getting older rather than having had a period, and it runs (!) in our family as my mother had a similar problem.

I didn't know C sections had that effect

Ask for a gynae referral - they can check for any cause and give you tablets to make it more manageable

Thanks. I heard C-sections made periods heavier but this is a bit mad. My mum had heavy periods like this too and had to have a hysterectomy in the end. I hope I'm not going the same way as I want another baby

I'll go to the docs.

Would go to the docs and ask for a referral to a gynae. This needs attention from such a specialist.

I had a c-section and it did not make my periods any heavier.

Fibroids can cause heavy bleeding, you should be checked by the gynae to see if this is the underlying cause.
