ate alot of blue cheese and brie type too. The blacksticks blue was out of date and didnt realise at the time.
Was as sick as a dog within 30 minutes and then profuse diaorrhea.took about 2 -3 days to settle. hardly ate anything. On the friday i felt ok and went out for a chinese meal with friends. Was so hubgry that i ate far too much. Came home and felt really uncomfortable all night and then for the last two weeks i have had upper gastric pain like i ahve never known. Food makes it worse.

Ended up at A&E twice at weekend with the pain, look absolutely ashen.Doc has put me on omeprazole 40 mg on monday...says i sound as if i have gastritis.

Has any one else had this?
How long does it last and is it really this painful?

Gastritis is a hard one to prove without endoscopy . More frequently symptoms such as upper middle tummy pain and tenderness which are successfully treated with drugs lie omeprazole will be considered to be gastritis.
Gastritis will tend to be made better with things like milk, gaviscon and omeprazole.
Other things can cause similar symptoms though and diarrhoea is not a symptom of gastritis.

It can be really painful alypaly. Like really. The omeprazole takes a while to kick in. I use to take a double dose until I felt it working since the pain was soo much. Sorry to hear you're feeling rotten though. Thing is it tends to be a long term issue: it can be caused by a Hiatus hernia, a hidden ulcer, (diarrohea could indicate heliocobacter pylori or another severe bug) After several years of dealing with it coming and going, my experience is that doctors don't have a clue about what suddenly causes it to emerge so aggressively. They can tell you that drinking alcohol, eating certain foods etc will make it worse, but after they give you an endoscopany, check for hernias and ulcers and find nothing, they hand you the prescription for acid suppressents and that's it.

It WILL get better though. The symptons will improve, promise. Just take each day at a time, be careful what you eat, work out what sets it off more, once the omeprazole kicks in it will improve. keep taking the omeprazole even when it starts to feel better. Use Gaviscon, calcium chews (hollands and Barratts) aloe vera juice. Avoid acidic fruit juices.

Lots of hugs!

Or it may be that the blue cheese has set it off major, more likely. Remember blue cheese can be dangerous even when it's good, that's why Preganant women are urged to avoid. Since it was off It probably contain some nasty bug, and eating out means your body has digested it and worked it through your digestive system explains the diorhea. The gastritis has flared maybe because your body is producing more acid in an attempt to kill the offending bug off? Just a hypothesis, not a doctor, wish!

Anyway hope it gets better soon.
Hugs.

thankyou 2kidsandi ,i still feel ropey today and that 17 days since this started. Doc phoned me at home and has given me a prescription for meds for h.pylori without even testing for it. I am reluctant to take them as i had the same drugs 4.5 weeks ago when a had a gynae procedure which went wrong. The gynae doc put me on amoxycillin and metronidazole incase i had and infection ,which as it happened i didnt have.

Actually i am now wondering if the ABx could have also upset my tummy.

What score out of 10 would you give your gastritis when it is bad. I would say mine was about 8

Oh don't get me started on this, I am a chronic gastritis sufferer. Just when I seem to get it under control it pops up again. Had it on and off for about 5 years , had endoscopy/biopsy nothing significant to show, mine seems to be stress related. Odd as I would classify myself as a very down to earth, organised & unstressed person. C'est la vie!

Hi there I know this thread is old but I wonder how you all are getting on. I've had upper abdo probs since my third child was 2/3 months old. Too many things happened at the same time. I had a recurrent quinsy and ended up with Tonsils out. The stomach stuff seemed to get worse after the NSAIDs from c-section and after metronidazole (which is suppose to help h-plyori (sp) I'm now on 80mg of the Nexium with 300 of ranitidine. Very silly high doses. Did any of you get through this without goes slightly mad :(

Thanks for any support you can offer. x
