My tongue is sore

I have been ill with flu for the last 10 days or so, though now over the worst of it (just coughing and snotty), but my tongue feels sore

It looks a bit cracked in the middle and towards the back, and is slightly coated ( i assume because i have been ill) in the same areas

Does anyone know what i can do to remedy this?

Are you drinking lots? Non-alcoholic beverages, I mean!

piratecat · 09/12/2009 17:08

i'd say oral thrush, all your defences are down and the best thing for it is this gel stuff you can get from the pharmacy.

You rub it on, it feels like you are just swallowing it, but some does stay on there.

noddyholder · 09/12/2009 17:11

Oral thrush esp if you've had anti biotics and also a symptom of b12 deficiency Hope you get better soon lou!

not been drinking ive been too ill!

i dont even have any in the house

pirate can you remember what it is called?

its not overly sore atm, but i am noticing it more as the day goes on

i have had to use my inhaler more whilst ill, do you think that could be a factor?

i've been asked to submit a tongue pic for a website of someone i know as well (dont ask) , but i told them i think right now would not be a good idea

ewww @ the pic that links from that link though

i do not have white spots on my tongue or in my mouth though, just a redness and the centre looks cracked slightly

blimey i feel like i am getting one thing after another atm, if i were an animal i reckon the vet would put me out of my misery

oh, lou i clicked that link. I didn't have those white spots either, yuck!

Try the gel, it may sting a tad, but it willhelp, until your whole body starts to heal.

A probiotic supplement wouldn't go amiss either to help you tummy be healthy. Lots of water, you know the (boring) score!!

thanks pirate

which inhaler is it. If it is a steroid inhaler ,it can cause thrush in the mouth. if you have had ABx it can also cause thrush in the mouth too. you could try fluconazole capsule. But the generic,it is half the price

Purplebuns · 10/12/2009 09:52

Hi, I had this a couple of years ago, except my Doc said it was part of a virus! TMI but I still have scars on my tounge were I had chunks of skin coming off...!! It was awful.

Anyway I wanted to recommend, ye olde gargling with saltwater.

I also had a mouthwash from the doc that was green, and had a local anaesthetic in it.
I really wish I could remember the name. It begins with a D I think, possibly a C, however it is not Corsodyl.
It was truly fab. I hope someone comes along and knows what I am on about!

Hope you feel better soon

alypaly · 10/12/2009 10:02

Purplebuns · 10/12/2009 10:09

AH I think so! I googled, and does seem to be the stuff. I thoroughly reccommend. Thanks Alypaly

lou33 · 10/12/2009 12:23
