Wrist pain, Ganglion?

Over the last week my wrist has become very painful when I bend it forward and backward. It also aches if I do certain things. It seems to have got progressively worse but I have not injured it. There is a lump on the back of my hand where my wrist joins by hand which is only palpable/visible if I bend it. I don't really know whether to go to the doctors or just wait and see? Has anyone got any advice please? Does it sound like a ganglion? I always thought they were painless.
I would be grateful for any advice please.

I had a ganglion and got it removed many moons ago.

It was pretty large and although it could be uncomfortable, I wouldnt say it was painful.

Maybe it depends on where it is situated. I suppose it could be painful if it was pressing on something it shouldnt be.

I dont suppose you could have been bitten. That's my only other suggestion I'm afraid.

Thanks for the reply. Today I woke up and the pain had gone although the lump is still there so I think it must have been on a nerve or something. Hopefully it will go soon.

I have a ganglion on the inside of my wrist. I fell over when I was pg with DD at Christmas in 2003 and haven't been able to move it properly since and then the ganglion came up.

Mine is very painful but not all the time. I've noticed if it starts aching, it will ache for a couple of days, maybe a week before full blown pain. I can't move it without wincing and at times, feeling a bit sick. I've found heat when it starts to ache eases it a bit.

Doctor won't remove it because it doesn't constantly hurt and it isn't very big.

I had a ganglion on my wrist when I was younger and it was sitting on a nerve which was agony if knocked at a particular angle. Most people told me they were painless too...

Had it removed surgically as the old "bash it with a book" treatment favoured by doctors at the time had no effect.

My best friend at school had a gnaglion removed when we were about 14.

Hers was quite large, situated in her wrist and only visible when she bent her hand down.

Sounds the same.
