Have been prescribed Trimethoprim for a kidney infection/UTI. Am bfing. Is it safe?

I did ask the nurse if it was safe to use when bfing and she said 'how attached to bfing are you?' She basically said that it does transfer in bm but as a drug that is also prescribed for children, it is not dangerous. However, it could upset her stomach and she would advise stopping bfing for a week.

DD is 2.

Anybody taken this while bfing? While I'm not desperately attached to bfing, dd is and I want to continue until she self weans.

The BFN says it's safe, so no need to stop

I took it when I was pregnant so I'd assume it was ok when bf.

Oh thank you for the quick response CMOT. I did try googling with a vague idea that there was a website somewhere that could answer my question but the haze of painkillers and sore kidneys has quite beautifully taken away my faculties.

Right, antibiotics here I come...

Arsed.

Thanks.

I've never had a kidney infection before so am not sure if I'm supposed to feel like my insides are trying to be outside. This is not pleasant.

Pleased you have some AB's SOH, kidney infections are horrid. A warm hot water bottle wrapped in a towel against your back or side might help.

Meant to say, actimel type yogurts might help your DD if it does transfer.

The kettle's on. Hot water bottle waiting. My Mum's also having dd for a few hours tomorrow so I can have a rest (dh works 7-7) and some sleep.

Hope the ABs kick in soon.
