Do you mean night terrors of nightmares because the 2 are completely different things ?
Night terrors is the child appearing to be in deep fear but not actually being afraid as they happen when the child is in deep sleep and not dreaming about anything. It is nothing to do with bad dreams.
My DS1 had night terrors between the ages of about 5 and 9 gradually reducing in frequency until they petered out.In his case they seemed to be triggered when he was too hot or had a very full bladder.

I mean night terrors, PC - what you get just before REM starts

QuintessentialShadows' child also suffered this.

Resurrecting this thread. Have 9 YO with flu / suspected SF. Have had two nights of night terrors - he used to have them when smaller (and feverish or just too hot), but they've petered out until now. These ones seem particularly traumatic for him - sheer terror / pain - screaming and wailing - takes around 10 minutes to calm him down. A horrible thing to see - I get quite panicky.
Any tips for bringing him round more quickly?

Thanks.
