Cleaning baby ears

Hi, does anyone know the best way of cleaning wax out of babies ears? My four month old has visible wax (which I can't extract with my little finger!) and I guess I'm not supposed to be poking a cotton bud down there! One of her ears smells a bit but doesn't seem to be bothering her.

You don't basically. I was told by gp they should be left well alone.
