What a pallava. Am 34+6 wks pg, am also asthmatic. My GP surgery finally has the vaccine and I went today for the jab. Whilst idly reading a pamphlet in the waiting room, I say that one of the ingredients is squalene, a type of fish oil. Now, having anaphalyctic reactions to anything seafood related, I mentioned this to the nurse just prior to her popping the vaccine in my arm (literally patients were in and out of her room in 30 secs)....
She knew nothing about this. Seafood allergies not on their list of contraindications - only egg allergies.
So the surgery called the Swine Flu Medical Advisor and lo and behold, they could not advise on the matter of seafood allergies. The only comment they made was that squalene is quite common in a number of vaccinations!
My lovely GP called me and said that she felt very uncomfortable advising that have the Pandremix given that she could not get clear advice on this and has now referred me to the PCT for celvapan.
Lord knows when I will get that. I deliver by c/s in 3 wks 6 days and I know the jab has to be given in 2 doses, 3 weeks apart!
However, my main reason for posting is to alert anyone who has a bad seafood allergy about this. As far as my GP surgery was concerned, I am the only person to have noticed this so far!! Eeeeek.
