DD who is 1year has been grouchy most of the week and off her food. On Tuesday she went to the doctors who said they thought she may be coming down with chicken pox. She didnt have a rash at the time.
Today she has a rash but ive looked on the internet and found pictures of chicken pox and it doesnt look like it.
The rash is on her back and stomach and around her neck and ears. Its flat and red blotches, theres no blisters or raised spots.
I dont know if its just a heat rash.
Anyone know?

hi
dont know if it will help but same happened to ds last week and he is 20mths. We were told it was chicken pox but he had no rash.then when it dd come looked like a what u r describing. He had it for 3days then it went. Gp said it may have been chicken pox or a viral infection.

the blisters wont come out immediately, it sounds like cp, from where you say the rash is, see what it is like in the morning, the spots will multiply very very quickly

Kittypickle · 22/06/2005 21:56

Keep an eye on them kbaby, chicken pox start off red and flat from memory, but they do develop into blisters fairly quickly, then you get new lots of the red flat ones. With measles you generally tend to get a pretty high temperature before the spot appear, my DS has probably got it at the moment or something else called Roseola, if you google you can see pictures of both.

aaa kittypickle thanks it looks like ds had roseola looking at the pics he did have temp and the rash came as temp went

kbaby · 22/06/2005 22:02

Her temp seems to be fine. Its just the grumpyness that seemed unusual one minute shes playing happily and the next its tears and tantrums and now the rash.

kbaby look up the roseola as it is exactly what ds had and he sounds to have been similair to your dd

I'd bet heat rash. Both my kids have had it. I strongly recommend Piriton and Lanacane anti-itch powder, which really helped ds in particular.

happymumof2 ive just read in 'what to expect when your expecting' book that you cant pass cp on without having it yourself, therefore its doubtful that you would have given it to your lo.

how is she today kbaby - if there are still no blisters I would say it's probably not cp - just the heat. Ds has been in a terible mood all week and has a heat rash on the back of his neck. We are wearing no clothes inside, and sitting in front of fans a lot.

bigdonna · 23/06/2005 22:00

none of my children or the children i have nannied for have ever had a rash before cp came out ,they started with 1-2 small red spots then they turned in to blisters. The little gorl i look after had about 20 spots at one time the dr said they were cp i said they were mozzy bites. She got cp 3 mths later from my dd.

kbaby · 28/06/2005 22:22

not sure what it was. It didnt turn into any blisters and she was grouchy until Friday. We did bump into a frind who said that her daughter had the same symptoms and the gp said she had mild german measals. They were both at a party together the week before. Not sure if it was the same thing or maybe even a virus.
