What does she want?

Christ knows. To have a good criticise probably. That's what they specialise in, it seems. What did she say she was coming about?

fastasleep · 22/06/2005 13:16

She probably wants to wander round your house running her finger along all the surfaces... if they're not clean enough she'll diagnose you with depression, as you're obviously in bed all day. If they're perfectly spotless, obsessive compulsive disorder... they do these spot-checks when they've run out of people to send to see the doctor for anti-depressives!

Nightynight · 22/06/2005 13:26

Why? I never used to let them in the house. Held ds out of the window once to show her he was still alive!

Weatherwax · 22/06/2005 13:31

What is she like? Mine is lovely and wouldn't dream of being critical and is always friendly. I wouldn't say the same for the one that helped out when she broke her leg though! Its the first midwife I would avoid like the plague now.

pindy · 22/06/2005 13:32

How did it go?

highlander · 22/06/2005 18:30

of f*ck - do they do that? I arrive back in the UK on Monday and I am seriously pooing myself about the dreaded HV. Maybe she doesn't have to see DS as he's 9 months. Hopefully.

starlover · 22/06/2005 18:33

my HV is lovely too. She has never ever criticised anything I do... I think she is simply in awe of my incredible parenting skills!

Nemo1977 · 22/06/2005 18:36

my hv is lovely too and in fact i quite like it when she visits and ds adores her..lol

Blondeinlondon · 22/06/2005 19:06

You don't have to see them you know

Tinker · 22/06/2005 19:09

My HVs have been lovely as well.

Aragon · 22/06/2005 19:11

Carla,

Just in case you didn't know - you don't have to let her in. She has to offer a service but you are not obliged to accept it - and there won't be (or shouldn't be) any comebacks on you if you do decline her.

Hope it went okay today though. What's she like?
Mine is very nice thankfully and doesn't notice all the disorganisation (toys everywhere, no hoovering or dusting done etc). And as a HV myself I never notice these things in other peoples houses which are often tidier than mine - and they've often got several kids. Puts me to shame.

WideWebWitch · 22/06/2005 19:12

You don't have to see them highlander. I saw mine once with dd and more or less said 'don't call me and I won't call you' - she was fine about it but is very nice and I would call her if I needed to. Unlikely though tbh!

MistressMary · 22/06/2005 19:43

Ditto ths same as below , they are a service and you are not obliged to see them.

highlander · 01/07/2005 11:31

bloody hell - I arrived back in the UK on Monday afternoon, registered DS at my GP's on Tues morning (distraction activity - always lots of entertainment in waiting rooms ) and the bloody HV phoned this morning to day she's coming round this afternoon!! She's none too impressed that DS has never had regular check-ups and doesn't have a "book". Might just nip out and leave DH to it......

SelfIndulgentVerySmugStrugstu · 01/07/2005 11:57

crikey- people are never happy! moaning if u dont see a hv or moaning if u do see a hv. moaning if u have to go to the health centre, or moaning if they come to your house! I can assure u like aragon says they're not interested in whether u have/havent dusted in over a year. they would be concerned and would talk to you if u and ur children lived in a death trap, or ur house was so dirty it was a health hazzard- but otherwise they dont worry, i can assure u of the many hv's i know have an aversion to cleaning and cleaning products! they are there to help u help your child reach there full potential, whether you use them or not is up to you.
