my fingernail is peeling off

i got it trapped in a door weeks ago and now the base has a hole in it and is peeling

ooh ouch! I did that back in the summer. I had a massive hole at the base of the nail, it all peeled and crumbled away, my ds was fascinated! It's taken a good few months to grow the new nail back fully. The nail is back but I'm still waiting for the big bump to grow out ... only a couple more months!! It's taken ages!

it's very sort as it's missing about 40 layers, will it harden up at all?

yes it does toughen up in time, surgical spirit will hurt but will hasten the hardeningprocess

slammed mine in a car door end of June and having gone though purple, brown, flaky and then dropping off altogether it is now starting to look normal
