Can anyone help / talk am so worried father coughing up blood

Can anyone calm me down am struggling to hold it together- My dad had just come back from hol and told me he has been coughing up blood. He went straight to docs who made him an immediate appointment at hospital for an xray. Xray is now done but he has to wait a week to see another doc about the results.

He is petrified and so am I. I don't have as many details as I would like as he is (unsuccessfully) trying to make light of it so I don't want to give him the third degree. He says it has been happening for a while but that he thought it was his fruit juice that he was coughing up for a while (sounds ridiculous to me but that's what he said).

He said he doesn't have to cough as such so doesn't sound like chest infection. But when he does cough he brings up some blood. I would love to ask how much etc but he doesn't want to talk about it and as I said it feels unfair to press him.

His general health is not great: He had bladder cancer last year. He had a treatment where the bladder is flushed with some type of TB virus every two weeks. Sounds bizarre, its a newish treatment, but he is now in remission and how thankful we all are for that. He also had a pacemaker fitted six months ago and has recently started to take Warfarin (sp?).

I love him so much, he is a deeply frustrating but wonderful man and I can't bear to think he may be ill again. Hopefully, we are all over reacting. This next week is going to be such a horrible wait for him, I can tell he is assuming there is something really wrong.

Any advice anyone??

Thanks PC have been doing some googling and warfarin can cause coughing up of blood, really really hoping that is the cause.

Was about to say, after reading your OP, that warfarin would mean that the teeniest burst capillary would bleed enough to show when coughing...sounds like one very plausible explanation. Fingers tightly crossed for you and your Dad.

Thank you for that really hope so. He's had so much bad luck recently- hopefully its time for some good luck and some good news that this is just the warfarin. Counting the days......

Update- xrays came back clear. Cannot tell you how relieved we are. Doc now wants Dad to have blood test to see if that sheds any light on the problem. Thanks for your support MNers.
