Can I still have my smear...

...if I'm on the blob?

Not a period, as such - more a light, sludgy discharge - old blood, maybe.

Any replies very much appreciated.

i think smears are suppoed to be exactly in th middle of the cycle so if on the blob it would have blood cells contaminating the smear.

Poledra · 18/11/2009 13:44

Nope, don't think so, as the blood makes it very difficult to read the test.

a small amount of discharge may be ok, the method of processing the sample will remove a certain level of blood etc. There are limits though.
If you're due to have a smear test, overdue or on follow-ups then make an appointment and see the practice nurse and check with them.
The other thing is to discuss with them that you've had this discharge for a few months (I think that's what you put on the other thread) then it's probably worth asking them about that too.

I've just had my smear.

Told the nurse about the discharge beforehand and she said she'd try anyway.

She remarked on how much blood there was and did smear and general swab and suggested I go to an STD clinic.

I'm now crapping myself that something's seriously wrong.
