How long is recovery time after female sterilization?

I'm 42 with 4DC, DD1 aged 10,DD2 aged 2 1/2, DS1 aged 15 months and DS2 aged 11 weeks. My partner has been putting off having the snip for over a year now, i'm sure you can do the maths! I'm more than happy with my brood and while it is sad to be facing the end of my reproductive career i dont think I can physically cope with another pregnancy. I have spoken to my GP who has given me a leaflet on having tubes cut and clipped however she couldnt tell me how long recovery would be or how long the waiting list is for that matter!
I need to plan at what point i could cope with this procedure and what aftercare i would need to help with my babies.
Any advice gratefully received

19/08/09 Met Family Planning and agreed to sterilisation
5/10/09 Interviewed by Gynacologist
4/12/09 Op - but they have rang me twice offering earlier appointments on 30/10/09 and 06/11/09
They are obliged to do the op within 12 weeks - NG24

Doc says I should rest for 2 days. They say as the op is on Friday I should be back to work on the Monday. Two friends say it feels like a heavy period.

I'll try to let you know how I get on - but I may well forget.

Good luck

Good luck with that!
Did the gynacologist decide what type of surgery you would have? eg key hole or more invasive? I suppose that will be the most important factor in determining how well i'll be able to take care of the kids following the op.
12 weeks is a very quick turn around. My GP implied i could be in for a long wait.
Take care of yourself

Please don’t get the clips in, there has been a raft of Problems with essure including class actions in the USA. I had mine cut. Refused clips. Recovery took a while but I had adhesions too so can’t tell
