Does anyone else mix up their words and forget things....

Am slightly worried I'm sinking into senility at an early age. tbh I've always done it. Head busy, multi tasking and get mixed up, but there's a history of dementia in the family and am starting to wonder. So do you sometimes say words in the wrong order, or forget things? Am not talking major disasters here, it's occasional small things such as I'll be busy round the house, go to put kettle on and realise I've already done it. Or maybe I'll go into a room and know I'm there for something but can't remember what. Or speech wise, for eg the other day I told DS I wanted him to 'go and play for a bit as I wanted five mins to eat the paper and read my breakfast.' Quite funny really - says she hoping am not the only one..

Yes I've done it all my life - I hate to think what I'll be like when I do get old! I go into rooms to find something, then wonder what it was I was looking for... usually I find that going back where I came from will jog my memory, but not always...

My colleagues have got used to me being completely unable to find the word for something and having to vaguely describe what I mean while they guess at it

I don't think it's senility, I like to think it's because my brain is so busy with more important things that it can't waste effort on such mundane tasks....

Thanks AMum - v.reassuring, though we'd better not organise anything together ever. Imagine the carnage.. Anyone else out there want to reassure me? I am sadly in need of it today.

I do this, too It usually occurs when I'm being spoken to from all directions while I'm attempting another task.

I'm exactly the same! And I can't remember people's names either! That can be very embarrassing.

No, has happened to me lots since I entered my thirties. I honestly do think it's because I have lots of stuff swirling around my head! If there is anyone alive who hasn't walked into a room and then had to think what they went in there for, I'd be surprised. I think we just notice it more as we get older because we are sensitive to age and worries of 'losing it' in the way that we don't even think of when we're twenty-five.

Don't know anything about memory loss / perimenopause, I'm afraid, but I would say don't worry about this too much. Day-to-day forgetfulness is more common than you'd think. I also find now I can't remember certain things that went on in the past in as much detail as I'd like, or family facts (for example, I could't remember for ages whether one of my relatives was dead and had to ask my mum in the end). Again, I think this has always been around to a certain extent, but I am now noticing it more - plus as I get older I have more stuff to remember so some of it is bound to get pushed to the back of the cupboard, so to speak...

I have this all the time - but it seems to be confined to when I'm at home after work, running around organising the home and the dc's - I especially do the word mix up thing, when I have 100 things all going through my head that need to be achieved... I've no problems at work though but then again, that's easy compared with running a household and family

summer, hooray you've made me feel better, as I've realised I only do it at home too. Maybe am not as addled as I thought
