High iron dosage in pregnancy...

... is it "safe" for baby?

I've been taking 3 x 200mg tablets a day of ferrous sulphate for 2 months and there's a chance I may be pregnant.

Has anyone been taking iron whilst pregnant?

Many thanks in advance for any responses.

Are you being given it on prescription? Lots of women become anaemic during pg. If you don't NEED it, a lot of people have found Floradix helpful.

It is safe

Thanks, guys.

Silent, yes, dr has prescribed it. Iron levels are ok, but "binding" level is low - back to test again in 2 months.

Just wondered if it was harmful in such a high dose.

found this on a website for you..
www.rxmed.com/b.main/.../anemia_during_pregnancy.html

It is advisable that most pregnant women should be given supplemental iron (ferrous sulphate 300 to 600mg per day). Even though the hemoglobin is normal at the beginning of pregnancy. This preventive measure prevents depletion of iron reserves and anemia that may occur in case of bleeding or with future pregnancy.

only thing is it can make you constipated
