Garlic capsules and rheumatoid arthritis - bad idea?

DH has RA. He is struggling a bit at the moment. He was off all medication for a couple of years but has developed symptoms again. Is on sulphasalazine, voltarol and co-dydramol. He also has general sterpid injection 2 months ago which really helped but I think the effect is wearing off (lasts 1-3 months).

He tried herbal remedy from a qualified herbalist but it actually made him feel worse. The herbalist said that was unusual but she would check out his response from the herbalist community she is in touch with.

Anyway - she advised that garlic capsules would be good to lower BP (slightly up) but DH is reluctant because the bottle states that garlic capsules boost the immune system. His own immune system is causing problems with RA so he suspects that garlic would make that worse?

Anyone out there with any knowledge?
