Hysteroscopy / pelvic scan and biopsy :-(

Anyone with any experiences ? I am quite worried.

I have been suffering with very heavy periods for a long time. Unusual texture (tmi) and terrible pains. However, they were like clockwork until early July. Now I am having a period every two weeks, which as you can imagine isn't pleasant and worrying as my DH and I were hoping for more kids (haven't used contraception for years, just going with the flow).

I was referred from my GP to gynae quite quickly and they have done numerous swabs / smears and all is ok, so I guess this is the next step.

I also worry as the gynae consultant said to stop the bleeding / heaviness would mean stopping me getting pregnant and I am 37 /DH 42. Am I getting to a point where I have to accept that I might not have any more kids (we only have 1 DS).

It could be something like fibroids which are relatively easy to sort out. Speak to your consultant and tell her you are still TTC, she may spot something amis and fix it for you. Don't despair yet.

Thanks Kreecher. Consultant knows that we are TTC, they have asked us to use contraception until the investigations are completed. Which I know is sensible. I have my fingers crossed.

Does cons think endometriosis is a possibility here; this can cause both heavy bleeding and pain. No swab will detect it though, its usually only detected through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy. Both that and fibroids should be checked for; this is likely why the hysteroscopy has been suggested.

Bleeding every two weeks is not normal, am glad to read you got a gynae referral. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

They really haven't suggested any diagnosis yet. Although they thought fibroids / cysts could be to blame.

I guess I will just have to wait and see. I'm worried about the actual procedure.

Lass, procedure is a peace of piss cake. At least you are getting something done. Which part of the procedure are you concerned about in particular.

Piece, that will teach me to be so clever with the srike out a word thing. Also, if it is endometriosis that can grow along your tubes impeding the flow of jiz.

You are right Kreecher, at least the process of diagnosis has begun.

I think I am feeling nervous about hoe invasive the procedure is. x

My gynae was mutterng about a hysteroscopy at one point, but then we decided it wasn't needed. You can have it under a GA, a local, or with nothing. A friend of mine had it done with nothing except i think a cervical block and siad all was okay- I think pain wise it's on a par with having a coil inserted- had one of those and ouch!
Pelvic scan is easy- assume you mean internal one- I have had one every 3-4 months for over a year- easier than a smear- just lie back and think of England.

Thanks Peony, that is good to know. I'm not worried about the internal scan, more the hysteroscopy.
I read through the leaflet they hand out and it's those words..." in a specially designed gynae chair with stirrups, we will make you as comfortable as possible" ......urgh.

There was talk of a cervical block...

I was quite impressed at the speed I got my appointment, and the fact it is a one stop clinic. Scan / internal / hysterscopy..all in one afternoon !
