My ds age 4 developed hayfever last year, started with itchy, puffy eyes. He then began wheezing and the doc said it was asthma caused by the pollen. We never found anything that helped brilliantly except some eye drops. It's started again this year, for the last week we've had sore eyes and sneezing so i used antihistamine and eye drops. Yeaterday he started sounding hoarse and coughing aswell so i have used salbutamol inhaler. What i am not sure of is whether this could be a side effect from the antihistamine or it's the pollen causing asthma or he's picked up something from nursery. Does anyone have any experience of hayfever that could give me some advice. I just don't know whether to bother with the doc again, try another medicine or what. Help!

I have hayfever myself, and I get asthma with it, but never with anything else (not house dust or anything). My guess would be that your son has asthma because of the pollen rather than a reaction to antihistamine, so I would have thought salbutamol would help. Maybe he could do with a steroid inhaler during the pollen season too? Good luck.
