candyfluff · 03/09/2009 15:20

alypaly, I didn't know you could get a gallbladder infection rather than stones. Its interesting as my ESR result was really high suggesting infection somewhere. In fact I have just got home from having bloods taken for a repeat ESR test to see if it has come down at all.

I actually told my GP the pain of this episode was worse than any of my 3 labours, the first of which was an agonising 48 hours back to back and the last (7 months ago) was 1 1/2 hrs from the first contraction to delivery with full strength contractions one on top of the other with no let up for the whole time and no pain relief. I still rather go through either of those again than have another 'attack'.

moosemama · 03/09/2009 19:41

candyfluff, I had two hp blood tests done, both negative. Good luck at the GPs on Saturday, hope they manage to help you.

warthog · 03/09/2009 19:54

thanks for the info alypaly.

i won't go back to 6 zantacs a day then. good thing the omeprazole works for me. i feel it has revolutionised my life.

sorry you've had such a crap time of it.

i had a very hard time convincing my doc i just had bad reflux. eventually i just said 'ffs, i've got reflux, diagnosed by a gastro. can you just give me a course of omeprazole to see if it helps???' and i haven't seen them since. that was 3 years ago.

moosemama
esr..erythrocyte sedimentation rate is used to detect any inflammatory conditions and is a good marker. The other one that gp's normally test for if you are going through an acute attack is CRP which is C reactive protein and if raised is an indication of an attack.

yes in answer to you question ,you can have a really badly infected gall bladder without the presence of stones. An older friend of mine is in hospital..quite seriously ill with exactly that

moosemama · 03/09/2009 20:43

Hmm, I think I remember CRP being on the form for the last set of tests. Suppose I'll find out on Monday.

Thanks for all your help alypaly. Its nice to talk to someone who takes me seriously instead of suggesting I've got a bad case of indidgestion!

hi candyfluff ..sorry i didnt get back to you yesterday...went into town for some retail therapy.
Funnliy enough, i had symptoms of a lump in my thraot prior to my gall bladder op. Mine was on one side, the right side I think and it felt as though i had food stuck..at times i felt as though i was going to choke. Is that how yours feels. I had 3 or 4 investigations ..a camera up my nose and down my throat and then a barium swallow. They found nothing but i was convinced there was something wrong....both consultants agreed they could see nothing.
So i went away, tried to forget about, tried to relax and chill and believe it or not it went away as quickly as it came. They said it was a spasm in my oesophugus and as it cleared up with no problems i tend to agree. The awful thing was i had it for about 3 months and my mind was running riot( i drove my DP mad worrying about it)...i thought i had got cancer of the throat and other awful things. Try and relax ,and tell yourself its nothing.

alypaly · 06/09/2009 10:29

moosemama ..any results back yet

ABetaDad · 06/09/2009 10:41

Yes I tried them after a gall bladder removal. Made me feel sick, jittery, and badly aching muscles and joints.

I tried other proton pump inhibitors but they all ahd the same effect. I make do with Gavison and dramatically changed my diet to Gluten Free and Lactose Free, eat less meat so I get less acid. Feel a lot better now.

candyfluff · 06/09/2009 13:45

thanks for getting back to me - may try going gluten and diary free and see what happens.
do you think i should see my gp this week and ask for the h.p blood test ?
