Hmmm I was going to suggest peri-menopause, I started at 35 and my periods went like this.

My periods became very, very heavy and much closer together. Sometimes there was a week between them. I went to the DR and was informed it was my age . I had a womb eblation last year to stop the bleeding.

It's where the lining of your womb is burnt away. Funnily enough my friend has just had the coil removed because of the same thing.
