I have a feeling that DT2 has impetigo......

... oh bottoms! (Not where he has it currently). Bit of a pain. Will go to the doctors in the am and see. So, anyone know anything about it? Or is it just me awake far too late for my own good?

I've seen it on a friend's child and I know it's contagious, but that's about all. It looked like a bad scab that was taking ages to heal, iyswim.

hi marslady my dd has had impetigo lots of times as once you get it once yo are prone to get it again .It starts looking like a colsaw(god i cant spell) its like little pussy spots in a cluster it needs a cream then it is not infectious,you need to use a separate flannel, towel because it is very infectious.my dd gets it on her chin and everytime she is run down it comes in the same place.

Its infectious until the scabs are gone. DD2 had this on her bottom. We treated it and it was going but she passed it to her sister via the loo seat. She was at the stage of loo visiting when she'd go to the loo frquently without telling us. I developed the habit of cleaning the loo seats every couple of hours for a week! If the cream doesn't work it can be treated with antibiotics.

weatherwax, my doc told me to send dd back to school next day as once the cream and antibiotics are used she was not infectious.

The school and nursery wouldn't let the DD's in until it had cleared. I must admit I was surprised that DD2 caught it but it was a good 5 days after we started treating dd1. We should have moved on to the oral antibiotic with dd2 because the cream was slow at shifting it. However dd2 was a stubborn 3 year old who will take most medicine but not "that" antibiotic so we kept on with the cream. I found one site saying that they are not infectious after 48 hours of treatment but I would have been very ashamed if she'd given it to someone else a nursery and my dd1 wouldn't have had the confidence to have any comment made about it at school.

oh great! And me with twins. Ah well. Thanks for posting girlies. I have an appotintment with the doctors at 10.50am and I'm seeing the nice doctor so hopefully it will be all sorted today.

I know this can take a while to shift but can anyone tell me just how long? Ds (7m) has had it for over 3 weeks. Not helped by the GP saying it wasn't and giving me more eczema cream (wtf?!). Have been using crean for 12 days and he has now finished antibiotics but it is just spreading. Am back at the drs again today and am getting really fed up....

I NEVER FOUND DD SPREAD AT ALL JUST TINY DOT ON CHIN,SHE HAS NEVER PASSED IT TO ANYONE ELSE EITHER,MAYBE IT DEPENDS WHERE IT IS ON THE BODY,HOW QUICKLY IT HEALS!.

Right back from the doctors. Not impetigo but another type of streptmedicalwordsIdon'tunderstandocophulus bacteria/virus/infection type thingy. So antibiotics for the week (nasty pink stuff which he spits out... great) and E45 itch relief cream for bedtimes so that he can sleep, and more importantly so that I can sleep. So we will wait it out and see. Incidentally the doctor said that DT2 was the second wee one he had seen today with said spots.

Marslady - know the stuff you mean, ds just had a course of it. That stuff is the colour of EVIL. Our best bet was to try and get the syringeful in several goes and squirt it into his cheek rather than aiming at his throat. But you probably know that, it was novice me who didn't.

Have been to the doc today too who said he has never seen the antibiotics NOT clear up impetigo, so we have been unlucky. GP had to call the hospital to get advice and even took a swab from my nose (....!) We are now (reluctantly) trying shock and awe tactics as we have now less than four creams/medicines etc to use on him. Good grief.

I wish your little one better, and hey, I blame the other kid too...!

Like a novice I put the medicine on a spoon and gave it to DT2 who spat as much out as he could. So my next thought was to only use the syringe and aim for the cheek.

4 medicines and creams. You poor love. Hope they find out the cause of Beanspoutlets lirgy. Poor babe.

Just about to administer another dose of the vile potion to DT2. Wish me luck!

I now have a bib coverd in that stuff which is now called the sacrificial bib. I daren't put it in the wash though in case it ruins everything else. In the end I just stripped him before I gave him any of that stuff as it (just) comes off his skin but I wasn't willing to ruin any of his clothes!

beansprout we also have a sacrifical bib. If I don't hold DT2's head back until he swallows he doesn't get any of the antibiotics inside himself. He recognises the bottle so I have to use many different tactics. If I thought he'd drink a whole bottle of milk I'd put it in there. Here I go again to try and pop some in him. Can't wait for the bottle to finish. [grimace]

Good luck. I am now a master of the dark art of administering antibiotics to ds. Really not sure that is a good thing though.

The spots are drying up. He's looking better and doesn't itch hardly at all now. Still looks foul but not as angry.

I thought he had blotches on his face until I realised it was the antibiotics that he spat out. lol

I have turned this boy upside down, downside up, every position you can think of. I'm not convinced that he's got much of the antibiotic in his little body at all. He can spit it out in so many different ways. I should send him to you. I know the stuff is foul (and gets everywhere) but it would be good if a little bit when into him.

On the upside, the spots are almost gone and his beautiful skin is almost completely clear. I can't wait for this bottle of antibiotics to finish cos the thing is screaming out my defeat each time I see it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
