Has anyone used an osteopath to treat glue ear??????

I've just booked an appintment for ds1 who is 4.5, to see an osteopath re glue ear.He has re-occuring bouts of glue ear and cannot be fitted with gromets as his ear canals are to narrow(due to low birth weight).
I would love to hear any success stories or anyone who has tried an osteopath,also how many sessions did you need?-having a panick now about how much it is going to cost !!!!

Had two friends that have gone down this route. One paid alot of money another went to her local Osteopath school and got a supervised student alot more advice and it was half the price.
One was told to avoid bananas to help Glue ear too!
Both children are fine now with improved hearing and speech.

My DD has glue ear (she's 17 months) it's something lots of kids with Down's get. i hadn't thought about taking hr to the osteopath though. She also suffers a lot from constipation and that could probably get sorted at the Osteo too.

Thomcat,does your dd's glue ear effect her hearing?
DS1 has had two attempts of putting in gromets, but they did not even have an instrument small enough to fit in his ear canal let alone grommets.He wore hearing aids up until 18mths,then hearing improved,but it is up and down all the time eg;last summer they were going to refit him with hearing aids,but his hearing improved a little after a few months,a few months ago he actually passed his hearing test for the first time ever in his little life.But he has just had a really bad cold and i know he can't hear properly,he is even telling me so,getting irritable and tired-sure signs of glue ear/hearing loss.
I just feel what is the point of taking him back to audiology when i know they will just tell me what i already suspect,and remind me that his ears are too small for grommets(sigh!!).
So, since reading your post i have decided i don't care how much the osteopath is going to cost, I am just gonna go for it!!!.
I will let you know how we get on,we are going next sat(24th).

Osteopathy is good, especially if you choose a cranial osteopath. However, you might also like to consider thermo-auricular therapy; this is very gentle and relaxing, may help the child sleep well too and will be much cheaper

kathylee - a mumsnetter named 2under2 has used it for both her children but particularly one dd who suffered from a lot of glue ear... i will try and tell her abou this thread so she can give you some advice.

Yes it does effect her hearing. She's had 2 tests and it's got slightly worse but she still passed. i think she got 60% or soemthing??? Sh@t, I'm so crap i can't remeber what he said now. Anyway she did pass but am worried about it getting worse obviosly. She'll struggle a bit with speech anyway, all kids with Down's do apparently, and if she can't hear me pronouncing the word clearly she won't be able to say it properly so.... I say things really clearly at the moment and with certian key words I put her fingers to my lips and her lips to mine and hold her close etc etc when I say it so she can 'feel' the word as well.
anyway I'm definatley going to book her to see the cranial osteopath at Harley Street now, thanks for reminding me about it, very grateful. I took her when she was a few weeks old, but just forgot all about it, so thanks mate.

YES ! and homeopathy and advice from my favourite book, which is also here I was terrified by the idea of giving my tiny (then 11 - 13 months) anaesthetic to insert a grommet, so pursued every alternative to this prospect and she's been great. Homeopath also recommended me to put a drop or 2 of castor oil inside dd's ears at night when she has the first signs of any recurrence (pulling ear lobes ...) or a cold which could lead to ear infection again - seems to work ... hth
