Anyone had a Basal Cell Carcinoma (most common type of skin cancer)

If so, would you mind talking to me about it?

What was the procedure getting diagnosed/treated?

How long had you had it before you got it sorted out?

Has it never come back or have there been further complications?

I have had several on my legs and one on my hand.They were like small scaly patches and were treated in the surgery under local.They haven't come back HTH

My MIL had one on her face. Not sure of all the details but I know it was at least a couple of months between diagnosis and removal. This was a couple of years ago and no complications or reoccurance.

GMIL has had 8 or so BCCs. Some she has had treated with topical chemotherapy, some removed with surgery, and the ones by her eye treated with radiotherapy.

After she had the first one diagnosed by the GP, she saw the oncologist in a couple of weeks, and now just goes straight back to them when a new one appears.

No complications from the treatment, and they aren't coming back, just gets new ones - this is pretty normal as some people are just prone to them, and she is 97

My DH had one a couple of years ago. He had a small scabby spot on the side of his face which I'd been asking him to get looked at for years when he did get it looked at the doc didn't thing it was anything.....

someone on mumsnet then mentioned BCC and showed a picture which matched that on dh face exactly, he eventually took my concerns seriously and went back to the doc who confirmed it was BCC and went on to have it removed witin about a month or two.

He had local anaesthetic and lump size of large prawn cut out (he said operation was fine, but noise was horrific, it was by his ear!) and now has a 1inch scar on his chek. no repercussion, no follow up treatment, or even follow up appontments once stiches were removed.

From what I've read they are the least threatening type of skin cancer. Very unlikely to spread or cause further problems...can grow for years etc etc.

The trouble is sometimes a more serious type can mimic, you can't tell without biopsy...for instance they can look very like a nodular melanoma, which is the most serious form.

So always best to get checked out.
