MRSA: what is it exactly and how do they treat it?

My grandmother has been extremely ill recently and has been rushed back into hospital with MRSA. What exactly is it and how will they treat it?
She's a very old lady who has been through a lot lately and I fear she no longer wants to fight.

It is a bacteria that can normally be found on the skin but when you are immunocompromised or post operative it can get into the blood stream and cause illness and fatalities. The problem is that antibiotics are not always very effective at eradicating it. Some people do recover from MRSA infection.
